Rx8 vs 98 corvette c5- help me to decide

Hello everyone, i just registered this beautiful forum.

I live in Turkey and here, used rx8 price is 15k $

and used 98 corvette price is 30k $

I was used 2011 alfa giulietta 170hp and after alfa romeo brera 185 hp.

Now i am thinking to buy 98 c5 or 06 rx8

I want to know positive and negative sides of both cars

I expect of a car ;

- acceleration to the high rpms
-nice handling for instant overtakings

it it worth to give 2x price for 98 c5 ?

i know there is rx8 forum but please be neutral before making comments :)

Thanks everyone.

This decision would totally be specific to the actual cars in questions. we need waaaaaaay more info than provided for both vehicles. Mileage, condition of exterior and interior, was the regular maintenance done, was previous owner savvy of proper care for an RX-8....

sonicsdaman 07-23-2015 12:33 PM

numbers based comparison:

rx8 (232hp) is slower then a vette (345hp)

both have same fuel economy

both have 6 speed stick or 4 speed auto

8 is slightly more practical with 4 doors/seats

vette has a better reputation on the reliability

vette will get more attention(good and bad)

noting will beat hugging a turn in the 8 at 80, not sure if the vette is good with handling

^And that's assuming that both vehicles are perfect!

Easy decision. If you want strong "grunt" right off the line and a very fast car in a straight line or on the track, get the Corvette. If handling is what you like best - getting around twisty roads as gracefully and quickly as possible, get the RX-8.

Your personality also factors in. Are you all about performance numbers and 0-60 times? Corvette.

More into how the car "feels" changing direction and going around curves? RX-8.

Im pretty good and knowledgable about that particular corvette and my opinion is if your wanting very good handling get a rx8 theyre handling is better but like everyone said before condition and miles plays a major role, I personally would rather roll in a 8 cause their so much smoother on cornering if you had a Zo6 vette as an option that would be a different story but the cons to a vette is high prices cause vette parts are expensive. But so are certain RX8 parts as well but you just gotta dig up facts on both and talk to someone more knowlegable about each one to make your decision.

These guys are telling you straight, but with the Vette, are you planning to keep it stock or upgrade? The LS1 in the Vette went on into many different vehicles and has an enormous aftermarket following. That motor reacts really well to simple bolt ons, just changing the air box lid and adding a K/N filter is good for just shy of 3/10ths in the 1/4 mile. Generally 1/10 of a sec is like dropping 80 lbs from the car. That said it won't touch an RX-8 on an autocross course

This is something only you can decide.

It's Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather.
Brute force vs finesse.

I admit it's a difficult choice; whichever you choose you'll always wonder if you should've chosen the other.

If you want something unique, there may never be another rotary engine sports car, the go with the RX8.

If you want to edge by that Camry at 93 Mph. in the middle of hard right-hander, then go for the RX8.
If you want to blast by that Camry at 150 Mph. on a straight road, then go for the 'Vette.

At any rate, let us know which you choose.

get the 8 if its half the price. its a way better deal value wise

Gravey 07-24-2015 11:02 AM

I think I've solved it...

Get them both!

Damn, $30,000.00 for a 98' Vette? You could get a low mileage C6 Z06 for that price here. And I hope that $15,000.00 RX-8 is a 2011 R3.

But really, who could sit and look at this for any extended period of time?

It reminds me of a Pontiac Grand Am.

Yes, I have to agree with 9k.
The interior in my '04 GT is still very nice, comfortable, quiet, and very ergonomic.
I've never driven a Vette, so I can't compare, but I've rented many new cars for cross country trips, and my 8 rides and handles as good or better than most of them.

Andrew5190 07-25-2015 11:43 AM

Personal experience...an RX8 can dance with a C5 Corvette (at least, an automatic C5).

Yes, the Corvette did pull away on every single straight, but not as much as I thought it would (I kept the 8 in third pretty much constantly). And as stated above, with the 8s superior handling, I was right back to their bumper in every corner.

But this isn't a story thread. As someone who has always loved Corvettes as well, my love for the 8 is greater. I'd say test drive both, put them through their paces, and then you'll know for certain.

@9k that interior...gross. Thanks for reminding me how bad General Motors can be.
