RX8 2004 Automatic to Mechanic

Hi Guys,

I'm a new on this site and I need your experience with the RX8, I bought a RX8 2004 (automatic transmission) 1 month ago, the problem is the engine, the engine has no compression, I live in El Salvador (CentroAmerica), here it is really hard to find someone who know about the engine, for that reason, I have decided to buy one in Guatemala and I will experiment with the old engine, Guatemala have two engines for RX8 2004, One automatic and one standar, I want the mechanic transmition, but in terms of dimentions, I'm not really sure if is the same, the provider will give me the whole set (Engine, Transmission and ECU), I will need make some adjusts or modifications (suspension or something like that) ?

I look forward to your comments and advice.

Automatic is a 4 port rotary. Manual transmission is 6 port rotary. More differences than you think. Driveshaft and rear end also different. Lots of work to convert from Auto to Manual transmission. Faster and much easier to swap auto for auto engines.

Swap can be done if you have experience not for a first timer

Hey brother wish you the best of luck on this project you want to do. the swap you want to do can be done fairly basic if you have automotive repair knowledge this definitely would not be something for someone who doesn't know how to work on cars other than normal maintenance. You need to know what your doing and have at least removed and installed a few engines in different vehicles for normal repair. The manual car has a few different systems than the automatic but they are the same chassis and same power plant frame. Exhaust is the same even the driveshafts are they same except the automatic is heavier and made of steel. Unlike the lightweight carbon/resin manual driveshaft. Even the pedal assembly's will swap out the holes and studs are already there for the clutch master cylinder. The clusters and computers need to be swapped along with the oil coolers from the manual car. To do this swap you really need a donor car that is pretty much complete minus body damage or something else is wrong besides engine and transmission you want those two to be in good shape to make it worth it. I have a thread I'll put on here of someone who has done it and wrote a thread about what you need etc. here it is hope you get it done. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-specific-performance-mods-97/mt-swap-151684/#post2563386
