the mileage is encoded into the ECU, it's not likely to magically add on 70 some odd thousand miles just for the hell of it. even though 113k is 181k kilometers, perhaps he just typed in the wrong number. |
113k miles is 181k kilometers, so assuming that 1 digit off is a typo, i'd say that it flipped to KMs.

RIWWP beat me to it

From my way of thinking, a single digit typo that is easily known to happen is FAR more likely than the ECU arbitrarily doing something that has never been seen to happen.

i agree, the mileage portion burned into the ECU isn't something the ECU can actually modify. while you can read the mileage you can't touch it even with the dealership software. we would have to send an ECU with a mileage number to a certified dealer sublet to have the mileage burned into a replacement ECU when i worked for other car manufacturers. it was a royal pain because it took about a week and the car could not be moved far during the process.

When ignition is on
below the ‘speed’ digits you should have either a small ‘MPH’ or ‘KM/H’ showing. If your gauge cluster has 2 ‘stalks’ try holding one down for a few seconds it should either reset your trip meter or toggle speedo back to miles. For EDM’s it’s the right/hand stalk that you want, for ADM I think the left. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/changing-speedometer-between-mph-km-h-89766/ |
Hey guys. I just saw all these posts and thanks for all your replies. I did indeed make a typo, I have 118K miles. I fixed the issue by just disconnecting the battery. I freaked out for a good minute. Phewww :worship:
