Question about premix
Hey guys, newbie here! sorry I didn’t mean to create yet another thread about premix but I couldn’t find an answer to the question i have okay so I’m a student right, so fuel costs are kinda a big deal. Is it even remotely worth while only premixing lets say every 5th tank or so? I cant afford to premix every tank and i road rip a lot so yea :D: thanks in advance! |
just don't premix at all ........

You can't afford an extra $2 per tank? What are you doing with an RX8? It's bad on gas before you even get to maintenance items and cost of neglect.
|
Most RX-8 owners have never even heard the word "premix". And most RX-8 engines don't have major problems. Draw your own conclusion.

Of course as long as its just opinion and no data, nobody really knows! |

I’ve liked the car ever since I was a kid and I got it for a really good price, I know I’m gonna struggle with costs for a bit but that’s Okay, when I’m out of school it won’t be as much of a problem. I just wanna know if adding premix every few tanks is actually worth something to burn the carbon build up off or if it’s a waste of time |

dude here In South Africa it’s about a dollar and a bit for one litre of petrol I’ve liked the car ever since I was a kid and I got it for a really good price, I know I’m gonna struggle with costs for a bit but that’s Okay, when I’m out of school it won’t be as much of a problem. Either you do it every tank, or you don't do it. And no, the premix isn't there to burn off the carbon. It's there to (at least theoretically) help with the lubrication of the seals. And I hope you at least have some reserve cash for a new set of coils and/or spark plugs. Skip the maintenance on this car and it will leave you stranded, fast.

Or failed apex seals due to the inadequate oil injection rate on S1... Or clogged cats... Okay you know the punchline. |

So basically the same gas price as British Columbia, Canada. Nothing to see here.

That's about how much it costs here too. Maybe a bit more expensive. You only need about 250mL per tank, so $2.50 max? Price of a coffee.

I mean, I pay CAN$240 for a case of Idemitsu Premix, but it takes me more than a year to go through them. You don't need that much, 1/2 ounce of premix per gallon of gas(or 4mL of premix per L of gas)is recommended for street use for those of us who run it. |
Once every fifth tank will not do anything useful. Be more concerned about your ignition / cat health. Failures in those areas will kill your engine much more quickly than seal wear.

Try and see if you can buy a case of 12 or some other higher quantity. They may give you a bulk pricing, and it's not like these things expire quickly. If you don't want them anymore, sell them to someone running a 2-cycle engine.

I do the same, I order a case from Mazdatrix and it lasts me a year, its around $100 including shipping. I drive about 10K-12K miles/year.
They also ship pretty fast. Gets here in a day. |
Also remember it does't have to be Idemitsu. Any JASO FC or FD two cycle oil will do the job. I use Lucas and buy it four gallons at a time. It costs me about $110 per year.
