Power steering light on

I read through a lot of forms and still can’t get the light off.

Problem, power steering light on. Steering wheel with !

What i tried, I took the connectors off and cleaned them I also tested the Ohms on the cables. Nothing worked this far

the wheel still turns easy although this is my first 8 and never driven any other one.

Turn wheel all the way left then right.... restart the car and it should be gone

Thank you for the information however it did not work. Any other ideas maybe the pcm is bad or a bad steering rack

you need to get a scan tool that can read the codes. not a generic obd 2 scanner that you can get for $20, but a mazda specific scan tool like carsoft that costs a little over $100.

If you want to read DTC(Mazda-specific), no need to spend that much money.

Buy an ELM-327 adaptor, preferably a cabled one. I got this switched one that can read both HS and MS CAN, but it seems that the 8 only has HS CAN, so you can just leave it like that.

While you wait for shipping, download a copy of FORScan, which is a software that can read Ford and Mazda(as Ford essentially owned Mazda a while back) codes and even adjust some settings(like turning off TPMS for your track tires). Sign up their forum and once they approve, you can get a free 2-month key to use the software.

I tested the volts coming out and going to the pcm I’m getting 7.7 is that normal?

NotAPreppie 05-29-2019 08:24 AM

Which pin did you test?

Mab43 05-29-2019 10:43 AM

It was the the thick black and red. Tested it the pcm then out of the noise box also by where the coolent would drop all over the connection.

NotAPreppie 05-29-2019 11:24 AM

Thick black/red? Like B+ and B-(ground)?
Those should be >12v with the car off and 13V - 14.5V with the car running.

Mab43 05-29-2019 11:58 AM

I tested where I circled with it running 7.7 volts

Under the noise cancellation there is a black relay can the be it? Thank you for the help I have spent hours trying to search this and read so many forms

I just went threw the same problems and checked everything and when I replaced the wiring harness for the steering it fixed the problem . I have a 2004 and the harness I replaced was part # F151-67-SHOA . It was $160.00 and easy to replace . I would change that before you do the rack and pinion

Mab43 06-02-2019 04:39 PM

Thank you. What is the volt reading coming out of the cord going to the rack?

Mab43 06-06-2019 07:15 PM

Just to let any know who may find this post it turned out to be the module. The voltage coming out should test around 3 and change as you turn the wheel. It was not the cables nor the rack it was the power steering module it’s self. Thank you all that tried to help.

schumithecat 06-06-2019 07:20 PM

these modules must fail pretty often, because I just determined mine failed too (using FORScan, after cleaning then replacing EPS harness).

So I have for scan light and just got an ond2 with usb how does the FORScan work on the computer
