Please help
Hi everybody. I'm new to this forum and in desperate need of help.
My 2004 rx8 6 speed won't go into any gears when started. My clutch has been squeaking for about a week., I was hoping it was maybe from a combination of extreme cold Canadian temperatures and not driving for a couple days. It has happened a couple weeks ago but went away until today. The only way to get it to roll is to slam into gears or to shut it off before shifting into first, and when attempting this, it sometimes stalls or won't start, almost as if the clutch isn't fully engaging. I have no choice but to take the risk of driving it until I can get it to a mechanic. I've been high revving and using the small roads to avoid shifting so I don't cause more damage. My dad suggested checking the fluid but I'm on my own in the city of edmonton with an extremely tight financial budget, and I have very little knowledge in regards to where any of those components are located or how to do the bleeding procedure. I've owned this car for 2 years and learned to drive manual with it, so I'm almost certain that my clutch has simply worn out., But I won't know for sure until I can afford to take it to a doctor.
Also, the clutch started feeling soft when this happened, and when driving for more than an hour, everything below the shift stick would always get very hot, even when I use the air conditioner., so it wouldn't be a faulty vent. And it always had a hard time starting., even with all new battery/starter/coils/spark plugs/wires, everything except for a clutch.
If anybody has any suggestions, it'd be most appreciated.
And thank you in advance!
Mike~

Usually clutch fail slowly...so unless you had a catastrophic failure that you should have noticed it is likely the clutch pedal or the hydraulic system (either the clutch master or slave)
It could be something as simple as a leaky clutch line.....does the pedal feel really soft?
Is there side to side play in the pedal itself?

was the squeak in the pedal or the transmission? if pedal, search for clutch pedal failure. if transfer, likely release bearing.
if you must drive it, figure out how disable the pedal sensor so you can start in gear. then warm the car, shut it off, put in gear and start. but, only as an emergency.

There is side play, but it just feels like the cheap pedal bracket flexing. I attempted to start it last night, but no dice., the starter wouldn't even crank.
My neighbor mentioned that it might be the neutral safety, so I played around with the clutch pedal and it finally started, I then attempted to drive it to the store but it stalled in first gear and wouldn't start again, so I got it towed home.
