Oil in engine bay and intake!e

I have a 05 192, About 6 weeks ago I was servicing my 8 and I noticed there was a lot of oil in my Intake. After a quick search on the site I seen that it's not that unusual for this to happen to pre 06s and I wasn't sure how long it had been that way. so decided to clean the oil up and replace the filter panel with a new one, I drove the car for another 4 weeks before I replaced my stock intake with a K&N typhoon. When I removed the stock filter I checked and no extra oil was in it. Then just today I was driving the car hard and I smelt burning oil when I poped the hood I realized I left the breather tube off when filling the oil the night befor and oil was all over my engine bay,(I filled the oil to the top marker it was now more than halfway between the makers on the dip stick) I've been tryin to find some info on this but seems no1 else has been silly enough to leave the tub of😂

Was the oil that was in the bay there just because I left the tube off or was this to much oil for that to be the cause? (drove less than 10 miles) or maybe the car was puking oil into to intake again and went into to bay instead because of the tube? If so would and oil catch can remedy this problem?

Im just worried it's maybe be the oil o seal, as I only had the car rebuilt less than 3k ago

Thanks for your help guy
p.s. First time poster so sorry if I've done something wrong

Well, since you had no issues during that 4 weeks with stock filter, I'd say it's probably just because you forgot to screw on the filler cap.

When I first bought my S2, there was a bit of oil in the accordion tube as well. I cleaned it up and there is no oil ever since. Oil in the intake could be from simply overfilling the oil. I recommend you to keep the oil level just a hair below the max line.

Also, just use the stock air filter. K&N give you 1HP at most and it needs to be reoiled, doesn't filter nearly as well as the stock filter, and if you put too much oil on the filter, you risk frying your MAF(not cheap).

RX-8 stock intake is extremely good, leave it alone.

The K&N Typhoon is hot garbage intake. It reduces power output and messes with the MAF sensor. Go back to stock, you'll be happier.

As for puking oil, it's normal for oil *vapours* to pass into the intake, but not volumes of liquid oil. Think about it, if that oil didn't go in your engine bay, it would have gone in the intake. That indicates excessive blowby, so that rebuild might not be in the best health. How was it rebuilt and how was it broken in?

I had the rebuild done by a specialist 500miles away, I drove the car home from the kept it under 4K rmp the entire 500mile, I serviced when I got home slowly give it more RPM over the next 500miles. The rebuild is covered by warranty so if it is the side seals I will get it replaced no worries only problem is the trip to the garage is pretty expensive with ferry or shipping costs. I'm really just trying to make sure that this is definitely the problem before I send it.

im thinking adding a catch can and monitoring the how often this and how much oil is blowing by would shed so more light on it.
Is there a better way to diagnose this problem?
