Oil change to mineral from semi
Hi Guys,
just bought my first Rotary. Its 2007 Kuro. Loving it so far. The dealer used semi 5w40 oil in it however reading more and more and mineral is the way. So my question is i want to swap the oil to mineral but when i drain it the engine will still hold about 3 ltrs which will then get mixed with Mineral. Do i do a mineral add run it a day then flush it again or will it not make a difference if i just add the mineral and 2 months after i do a change again? Thanks |
Welcome. Don't worry about the type of oil, it's a largely pointless argument. 5w40 is fine, as is semi synth. Just change it regularly, every 3k miles, with whatever you prefer. The remaining oil will be mostly out in 2 changes.

Thanks For the info Loki!

Loki is right. Use up what is in there; it won't hurt anything. Then change it to whatever you like and stick with that. It will work itself out after 2 oil changes. Much more important than the type of oil, is keeping it in good condition, which mean frequent changes. Use whatever makes you happy, and change it every 3000 miles. Change the filter every 6,000 miles.

Thanks steve yeah im going to do that tomorrow. Need to change the spark plugs as well. Its starts fine but seems to have an erratic idle at times and i can smell a very rich exhaust too.

Exhaust smells rich? Do you have a cat?
If yes, you want to look inside of it. If not, any ICE cars without a cat will smell very bad, so it's normal. |
Yeah suspect the cat or even clogged fuel systems as others have suggested in various posts.checked the plugs seemed fine. Bought a catclean will be putting that in and see how it goes. Dint get much history fron the dodgy dealer lol. It is still stock but after i have it mechanically fit i plan to do a cat delete :D

If you drive on a clogged cat you will be shopping for a new engine. Better get that checked and replaced if you suspect it.
You didn't mention coil packs, but that should be item #0 on your list. |

You would suspect incorrectly. You don't know the history of this car so assume nothing.
The only thing cat clean cleans is your wallet. Hundreds of people have been where you are, the difference between those who minimize their eventual expenses and those who don't is vigilance and testing every component until it is known good. |
