OBD port/socket change

I’m wondering if anyone has changed their OBD port socket and can give some insights. The pin connections on my port are pretty sloppy. I suspect some used a reader with large pins. I have to play around a lot to get my Bluetooth reader to connect(keeps dropping out). Once a connection is finally made it seems to stay connected.
I just purchased Mazdaedit but I’m thinking I better get this socket fixed/replaced first, before I attempt an ECU dump.

Thanks in advance

Usually it is the female end of the connectors that are the problem... you can make sure the male end is straight but other than that look at the other end

Yes. Definitely the female end. When I connected the tactic openport 2 and tried to read the ecu I got an error code that suggested there was no physical connection with the car.
I don’t imagine these are easy to replace or if you can buy just the socket. The wires come straight out of the wiring harness.

pretty common problem on the rx8, my Cobb device had the same issue when trying to log during autox runs

Fixed. 1/2 hour at a tuning shop. There's a white swing clip at the back of the socket(similar to the one that lets you disconnect the ECU from the engine harness) that lets you remove the pins and re tension them. Just make sure you Know how to put them back.
