Newb syaing hello

Hi guys.

After joining the rotary gang, and ruining my 8 within a month - it looks like I'll be spending a bit of time here.

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello.

Welcome.
That sucks. What happened?

Dead 8?

Cheers. Was in 3rd gear, approx 8500 RPM (accelerating) and the engine began to hesitate. Looked in the mirror and was being chased by a dirty big blue cloud.
Changed into 5th to lower the rpm, then 6th. Seemed to be normal. So changed down to 3rd again (slowed down a bit by now) and put the foot back down - got to about 7250rpm and blue smoke and hesitating agin.

Limped it home (about 3/4mile). By the time I got home it was driving and revving fine (tested twice with somebody watching for smoke - none).

Oil is now white and I mean white. Not a tiny spot on the dipstick - all over the dipstick and filling neck/inside oil cap.

Car has no hot start issues etc.

1 month in and I'm talking about a rebuild.

Anybody who could shed some light on this would be most helpful!!!

I have read that the rotors can move slightly at high rpms and allow the seals beside them to loosen slightly? Race engines have modified rotors with circlips to prevent this?

I have no knowledge of rotaries (YET, have a feeling I'm going to end up knowing them inside out soon lol)

Thanks in advance guys

Offhand I'd think that you had a bunch of oil that got dumped into the engine. Since it faded, it probably wasn't an oil control ring failure but oil getting temporarily dumped into the intake. Pull your upper intake manifold (UIM) and check the filter, accordion, and manifold for oil. If so, replace the filter, spray down the intake valving to clean them off, clean out the inside of the manifold with mild soap (don't use anything harsh).

Milky substance on the dipstick is common for the RX-8 in winter and isn't automatically an indicator of a problem. If you are worried about a coolant seal failure letting coolant into the oil, then pull an oil sample on your next oil change and send it to Blackstone Labs for analysis. They can tell the difference between H2O condensation and coolant.

Thanks mate.

You've given me a little hope. Will check it out in the morning.

Its the amount of white oil in it I'm worried about.
Going to go get a filter and drop the oil out it tomorrow.
I 've pulled the dipstick and spotted a little of it but dosen't take much time looking on forums to find out its common. It had a recent oil and filter change (Nov) along with cat, coils, plugs, battery etc.
The engine is a genuine Mazda replacement back in 2010 and has only done 30k (cars at 50k on 55 plate) so I'm hoping it'll be OK.

To be honest I wouldn't be too upset if it does need a rebuild - I'm dying to see what these things are like inside as to properly understand them. Fascinated by them.
Was after an FD3S when the 8 came along. Took about 15 min to start loving it lol.
