Hi everyone, just picked up an 05. Previous owner kept meticulous records and just replaced the keg with a mazda reman. I had a compression test done and it was ~115 front ~119 rear (corrected for rpm and altitude). Most wear items have been replaced withing last 3k miles, coils plugs all fluids and filters. this car is my weekend/fun car. I would like to take it to a few track days and get a bit better at driving. I'm a DIY guy/ mechanical engineer/ former FC&FD owner. I've rebuilt an FC and and FD engines before and am familiar with rotaries.

I've already ordered a CSF Radiator and SOHN adapter.

First question, what should i replace while i'm in doing the SOHN and RAD/rad ducting (aka don't want to remove everything again 2 months later to replace X grommet)

Second question, i want to improve my driving and have a reliable track car. I'm thinking of also doing hawk hp plus and some stickier tires 200 wear tires (rs4 or rt615k). Are these tires too sticky to learn on?? and if i do get them would the stock or h-tech springs be too soft causing mad wear on the shoulders???.

Any other recommendations?? ( i've read the new member modding thread already)

Have fun... it is a great track car especially for starting out

thise tires are good to start.... you may want to rethink the HP+ pads though. I found stock ones to work just as well. If you are going to swap pads go to a more dedicated track pad after a few times and you will have a better experience

it will likely run better after a track day. Mine always did.

check the oil cooler lines if you live in a street salt area... they are very prone to failing

OK, will the stock brakes last a few outings or will they be chewed thru after 1 hpde?

LOL. Depends how ypu drive 😎 and a lot on the teack you are driving.

i have burnt a set of HP+ off in a day so thats why i wouldnt fo that way.

Welcome! You came to the right place and you will find that the RX-8 is a marvelous car if maintained properly. Would love to see some pics of your new 8!!

+1 on checking the oil cooler lines and fittings. These are prone to rusting and you can lose an engine if you don't catch the issue in time.
