New RX8 Owner - Rockland NY

Hi there all, I finally decided to get involved with the Rotary lifestyle, picking up a 2008 GT 6sp last weekend. I've had a man-crush on this car ever since it first dropped in X2 (nice marketing) and am just now in a position where my life (and wife) are cool with me adding another project.

I didn't do a compression test prior to buying it but did test drive and hot/cold start as much as I could. I had a good level of confidence the motor was OK as it started Every time (as an RX8 does), and pulled really nice up to redline. For a car old enough to vote, I thought it was in really pretty great shape.

Today i just did a compression test using the twistedrotortech tester available from MazdaTrix and returned the following results: Back rotor: 111 108 109 psi. Front rotor 105 107 112 psi. All done on a fully hot engine (as my hand can attest to getting that CSS unplugged..

Sorry, no pretty pics yet.... but the body/interior are in almost brand-new condition (except the infamous RX8 passenger air-bag cover). The undercarriage has some spots that need rust attention, but overall, for an almost 20yr old car, i'm thrilled with the results so far. Next up i need to get all new brake hardware/fluid for all 4 corners... possibly new lines while I'm at it, and once I get the inspection done, go catless to prevent overheating the engine.. Then, chip away are all the other suggested OEM+ uprades that have been amazingly detailed here.

This forum has been a huge help already for me since joining a couple weeks ago. Just a wealth of info here!!!

Anyways, just wanted to officially say hello to you all!!!

Thanks for keeping this platform alive and well!!

Congrats on the purchase, I’m upstate in Middletown I have had my Rx8 since 2018. I love the car I use to daily it but now I store it during the winter months. Good luck with the ride, I recommend switching out your soft brake lines to steal braided especially if they are the original lines.

Yeah in May I’m going to be putting on EBC pads/Rotors and will definitely go SS lines. April is kind of shot for me already as I’m taking my civic down to Tail of the Dragon for an event…

Welcome to the club!
Nice to see another 8 locally. I’m in Westchester and recently joined this forum as well. My good friend has a red one you might see around Orangeburg.

Finally got the car registered and inspected and have been able to take some local rips around my area with it. What a fun car to drive! The brakes are just brutally overdue for a replacement and I'll get the cat delete mid-pipe put on in may, but other than that this car is going to be staying OEM+ for the foreseeable future. Next summer it may make the trip down to Deals Gap... after I update the head unit to be blue-tooth apple car play friendly...
