new from okc

Hey everyone,

My name is stephen and I am new to the RX8 world. I just swapped over from DSM's and I'm am noticing that I am in a whole new world. LOL Anyway my car is a pearl white 05 RX8. Its actually pretty sexy but its bone stock. Anyway im looking forward to seeing what kind of info i can find as far as performance and fixing problems.

Speaking of problems I am actually having one now. So my check engine light came on earlier and the car has been running like complete crap, and if i tried to accelerate at any kind of decent rate it would sound as though it would ping. I had the code ran and it came up as something to do with a large vacuum leak, Bad MAF, Ignition malfunction, and fuel system malfunction. I'm cant remember the actual number for the code but those were the causes that autozone's code reader brought up.

I know before you guys start flaming me that i should have searched the site and i will but any info on this would be awesome. I will post some pics of it later today.

Post the codes.
Those are all pretty serious items.

Coils and Plugs are regular maintenance on this car.
I wouldn't drive it until it's fixed.

There are very little in the way of performance gains for this car unless you go TC/SC/N2O

Ok so the only code it pulled was P2096 and apparently what i listed was possible causes for the problem. According to the thing autozone printed off the actual problem is AF feedback system too lean.

As far as performance gains go I will probably end up going the route of TC but who knows. maybe i will switch it up and go another route.

P2096 - Target A/F feedback system too lean

That's likely the rear O2 sensor.
It's used to measure catalytic efficiency.

The Catalytic convertors are a common failure point on the RX8, especially the 04-05 years.
Often caused by poor ignition.

I've also had a rear O2 sensor fail.

Exhaust leak may also cause a issue

edit:
A clogged catalytic would give you poor performance. In the end it will mean engine failure if you keep driving it.

Ya after reading over the potential owners thread i realize that i am in for a long haul with this car. Oh well I'm ok with it. I will just have to deal with it at this point.

As far as my problem its actually just a low RPM kind of hiccup. its kind of crazy and i wonder if its not plugs and wires and possibly a coil.
