New N00B here.

Hello all RX-8 owners. I'm happy to now call myself a RX8 owner now as of a few days ago. Yes I'm a noob to the RX8 but not to mechanics. I already accept that I have much to learn and will be as a sponge in doing so. I also realize that with the RX8 I bought, I probably started off at a very Advanced level car for my minimal knowledge of this side of the automotive world. I have already been reading and soaking up knowledge before I posted this but it never hurts to say that first hand and immediate knowledge that is impertinent to good maintenance is appreciated as I may have skipped over something in my reading.

Hello again all. I look forward to conversing with you all about this gorgeous beast :D

Welcome! Good luck with the car! Hope you love it as much as we all do ours. ;p give us detailsss! =D

Once I sort through all the paper work and records that the previous owner handed me and find out all the mods done to her I'll post all the details you want!

I've been driving it for only a couple days now and sparingly at that just so I have time to familiarize myself with her and I'm already in love.

Welcome! Lets see some pics!

Not sure if you read these already, but be sure to check them out.

Welcome to the awesome world of Rotary! I've had my 8 since May of last year, still learning and still excited to drive everyday (my 8 is my daily driver). Never have I before been happy more than 3 months after I get a new car, for any that I have owned in the past. But as I close in on the start of my second year with my 8, I am still as happy with it as I was the day I bought it!
Though my knowledge is limited compared to others on this site, I do have the 3 pieces advice that I have found to be most helpful out of the gate:
1)Let it get to temp after starting and before shutting it off
2)Changing your oil should be done meticulously (every 3000 miles)
3)Drive it like the sports car it is, the rotary engine is built to run at a higher RPM than other sports cars.
I wish you all the best and good luck.

Soooo she has (and this is all I've went through so far)

AccessPORT
Greddy RX8 50 Trim w/ Upgraded actuator
Premium 2mm 13B Ceramic Apex Seals
2mm Hard Faced Apex Springs
Black Halo Racing Ignition System
The transmission has been redone as well i'm trying to see what that entails but the paper work is out of order right now. :(

Welcome. Got any pics of the turbo setup? I am curious if you mean it has a BNR upgrade or not.

Welcome!

So you are in the Inland Empire?

Don't forget to read the stickies.

Go to West Coast forum.

We have a couple of events coming up soon!

Cars & Coffee
Lunch
Las Vegas

Congrats on buying the fastest colored 8 that Mazda produced!

I would recommend reading the stickies in the Major Horsepower section since your 8 came with FI.

Welcome to the club!

RonniEdwards 04-26-2013 10:33 PM

So yes, I am on the west coast but born and bred east coast. Moving back there by the end of the year. Buuutttt I can have a pick of the turbo up later. I'm in Vegas right now and I didn't bring her out here. I have been drowning myself in stickies lately lol. Trying to learn all I can. What's the inland Empire?

thebetteryou 04-27-2013 08:36 PM

Spends thousands on an FI kit, but doesn't keep the engine bay clean, :suspect:

Just hoping you didn't buy into someone else's problems, purchasing a preowned boosted 8 rarely ends well for any parties involved. Do you know if all the fixes where done to the kit? I would thoroughly go over every detail of that car, and get it compression tested asap. Would also contact MM or someone else to review the tune.

I appreciate the concern but the previous owner took immaculate condition of the car and engine. I have all the paperwork of nearly everything ever done to the car to include oil changes and the like. The car runs smooth and doesn't shake or spur at idle. No trouble whatso ever at startup and I plan to keep it that way. I am slowly bu surely checking everything though just to cover my bases and make sure there are no unforseen problems sneaking up on me though.

Oh, it is "clean" par say, I just live in 29 Palms, CA. Two min down the road and it'll always look like that. It's just a little dusty, not dirty. :D

Yes noob response here, what might be the point in that? I like to know explanation to why I would change something for my own knowledge.
