New member excited to get my 8 back out of storage and trolling Dallas

Well hello rx8 forum. I've trolled around here for a while and honestly until 2 minutes ago thought I was already a member. Weird oh well

I'm not a noobie when the rotary or the rx? Is concerned owned 10-11 over the past 7 years. Technician by trade(11years) , and for the past 4 I've been fortunate enough to build/tune race cars during my day job

I picked up my 8 about a year and a half ago running and driving for $900 knowing it was dying but didn't expect it to go another till it died 4 1/2 months later. And been sitting in my storage unit since. Well I torn down that motor a while ago, and no surprise most of it was trash. So I've been patiently waiting/and going and looking at motors locally. Knowing that finding a good one was probably not ever going to happen so I wasn't holding breath.

Until three days ago

One popped up for sale in a private listing. Sent him a message to see if it had seen any interest or had been sold. The posting was like 3 months old. And he a quick response I get back 1250 it's mine..
Having put it in my head that it was probably trash I let it go for a few more days and asked him if he was free to show it to me a few days later and if he would even be interested in 750-800. He replied that he'd take it. So I went farther and asked if he minded if I did a compression test. He replys "you break it you bought it, and there's no transmission." So I let it go for a few more days and had a friend text and ask if it was still availible and that he had $500 cash money. He bites and tells me he's free the next day for me to look at it.
So next night me and a buddy hop in his truck with two sets of jumper cables, few tools, my starter, and my compression tester. Get there pull the leading plugs and check for visual damage, nothing some carbon, but no contact marks and promising puffs in my eyes. On goes the comp tester, rotate by hand not really expecting the gauge to visually move, and bam needle starts rising fighting back the truth and trying to keep a poker face. They all had and held(very slowly dropping as it would slip by the seals)pressure around 20-24psi!!!! And remember this is by hand.... still telling myself that it's not possible I asked if I actually trying cranking it.
Both he and his buddy looked at me confused, and like I was crazy. Responded with "sure but I don't see how that's possible without the transmission"
Having measured the distance the night before I grabbed the two axle nut sockets we had brought the bolts, starter, and cables. Buddy flipped the truck around. Jumper the starter off the truck and I know they're still cold numbers. Front and rear are stupid even pulses front read 120-125 on all faces and rear was 128-130 and not spinning close to the reccomded 250rpm testing speed ...

Long story short, I got what would appear to be an extremely healthy engine for $500 and I'm excited. Will update with hot number when it's in. And again after I knock the dust off it, and throw some carbon out the back a few miles in

In Dallas, huh? I've been unable to have a compression test done on my 8 yet. Would you be willing to talk about plugging up for me?

Where around Dallas are you? I don't mind helping people out when I've got time to do so. It wouldn't be done with a "rotary" compression tester, just a standard one with the valve pulled out. Will give you a good idea tho

That's fine...at least some idea, would be what is needed. Actually live in Ft Worth, work just north of Six Flags. I'll be in touch soon, and set up some kind of appointment with you. Thanks man, much appreciated.
