Hello everyone,
I am a new member here with my 2009 Mazda RX8 R3 currently with 58220 miles. Bought her a few days ago from a used car dealership here in Stafford VA. Very clean, runs very well, computer checks out clean, carfax was clean and the previous owner had her for 6 years got her serviced at Mazda every 2500-3000 miles. She needed a new battery and the inside of the rotors showed alittle evenidence of heat but that was it. I HAVE NOT gotten a hot compression test yet but that is on the list.
I have read alot of the tech and general discussion threads on here prior to signing up, and I do not to alot about rotory engines or these cars but I am ready to learn about them. Main things I know (or think I know) as of now... they need to warm up and cool down properly, either by short shifting or by letting them idle and warm up, before you turn the engine off rev it up to about 5-6000 then shut it off, mix 2stroke oil 4oz for a full tank in the fuel, and im assuming as all manual transmissions rev match as much/best possible. Are there any main things I am missing or wrong on?
Thanks guys...heres some pics of my new ride. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...fab5074250.jpg

Welcome. That's a nice R3 you got here.

I assume you have read through all the new owner material?

Two things I should point out:

- Don't idle the car until it's warm. It's a myth that should have died with carburetors. Just take it easy when you start driving it. Shift below 4k RPM until a couple of minutes after the 7k RPM rev limit goes away.

- No need to rev while shutting it off. Just turn the key and done.

Otherwise, get that compression test done, and also double check the ignition components. If the history is unknown, it's a good idea to change them.

Gratz on the purchase .. and yeah, there is a LOT more to learn :)

See the New and Potential Owners thread at the top of the new member suforum, or the companion site I built from that thread that is easier to navigate and digest: http://www.rx8help.com

That's a nice looking R3 dude, super clean looking! Do you mind if I ask how much you got it for? Just curious how much one of those go for as I'm interested in getting another Rx-8 in the 09 - 11 year range.

Price

Nada value for it was 10500. They were askin 15 i talked them down to 12500 including tax tags n fees. Pop up dealership in nova so overpriced but worth it.

Welcome!! I think that's a very nice looking R3!!! Glad you know a little about the previous service history. That would answer a lot of questions I would have as a buyer.

I also do not rev the engine before shutting it off any of my RX-7's or RX-8's. I do let the engine idle for about 30 seconds before I drive the car and I drive my cars easy until I know that engine and transmission are both at normal operating temperature. Preventative maintenance is key for longevity in the RX-8. Over maintain the snot out of it and it will last.
