Need Tuning

Hello Rx8 forums
Ive been trying to find the forum on who to go to for tuning.

I am currently putting in a new engine in my Rx8, and its going to need tuning because its the next generation motor which has a bigger intake. I also have a turbo on it and tuning is crucial.

My question is, who can i go to for tuning? We've used mazda maniac before, but i cant seem to navigate his website to get information on tuning.
Also he doesnt have a number so i cant keep in good contact with him.
Could i get people that tune, and their reliability/quality of their job?

Next generation motor with bigger intake? Do you mean you had a 4 port and installed a 6 port?

Hmm...

Can you define what you mean by "next generation motor which has a bigger intake"?

If you mean a 6 port engine when you had a 4 port engine before, then it's not a next generation engine. The only other series of engine is 2009+, which is not compatible at all with the series 1 engine.

That being said, if you are putting in a 6 port and had a 4 port previously, did you also get a 6 port ECU and engine bay harness?

Assuming you replaced all of the electronics that you need to replace to do that engine swap, then your 3 options are AccessPORT, MazdaEdit, and Adaptronic. All of them involve an OBD2 connection piece of hardware, and software for a computer to edit the tables. Depending on where you are in the world, you may or may not have local options available.

Sorry, by bigger intake i mean. Its the same exact engine 6 port engine, and it just looks like the intake is bigger than the older model. I have an AccessPORT, i just cant tune it myself and was wondering who to contact to get it tuned because it is not going to be driveable when i get it running

If it's the exact same engine, why wouldn't it be driveable?

I still think you are referring to the 4 port vs 6 port difference.

Observe the difference between the upper intake manifold (black plastic curving down the side of the engine from across the top) of this 4 port:
Attachment 225342

vs this 6-port:
Attachment 225343

The 6 port adds that pair of lower intake runners that flank the main runners. The matching ports in the side of the engine is the only other obvious external difference between the engines.

There are several resources here on the forum that can either assist you to learn how to tune your 8 yourself, or whom you can pay to have it tuned.

However, if your ECU is for a 4 port, you can't "tune" it for a 6 port. It isn't a matter of tuning, it's a matter of ECU functionality. You need an ECU that even knows that the "larger intake" exists.

I definetly have a 6 port engine, i decoded the vin number, and its definetly a 6 port. What i mean by not being able to run is, i dont want to blow it up from running a lean spot at full throttle. I need it to be tuned. Im just asking for who can i go to for tuning if i have an accessport already

I am not going to simply provide a list. There is only one person that advertises their tuning services, and he has been banned from the forum. The others do it as they have time and can be convinced (usually with enough money). I don't want to simply list them out and give you an impression that their services are always available.

My original statement still applies though, since I don't yet know where you are located in the world, I can't provide any local or time zone based suggestions either.

There is someone local to you that might. I will point him to this thread, and if he wishes to help you, he can chime in and assist.

You can't blow up an NA engine by running it lean.

I'd love to help but am still working out OE tuning myself. I'm not the guy to try to do a FI tune in ATR yet... Perhaps one day.

If you had an Adaptronic I'd be all over it.

Might want to give Dave @ Speed1 a call. He's doing mazdaedit tunes now and might be willing to take on an ATR tune assuming you can supply him with a copy of ATR.
