Need Advice - 2004 RX-8 Selling Price (3,708 miles)
Hello,
I need a bit of honest advice. We have a 2004 RX-8 (red, 6 speed) with 3,708 miles on it. It looks showroom new and has been stored for many years (we moved, and my wife never drove it - it's just one of those things...). The only issue with the car is a strange one. During storage, a woodchuck (yes, you read it right) got into our garage and climbed up into the engine compartment. It chewed on a wiring harness, and also some of the insulation on the left wheel well. The wiring was repaired by a Mazda dealer and is like new again, but the insulation was not replaced because at the time the dealer said they could not get a replacement. The car runs like brand new. It purrs. :) The only two other defects are:
That's it. Other than that, the car is showroom perfect. The car still has the new car smell. Seriously. Also - just had an oil and filter change, and a new battery. So my problem - I have no idea on how much to sell it for. I would appreciate input on what a fair selling price would be. Located in Northeast Indiana. Thanks! |
NADA value is between 5 and 6K; probably be a good place to start.

Hmmmmm... I tried to post a photo, but it says I'm being moderated...
4dr Cpe 6-Spd Manual I hope that is what you are looking for? Thanks for the help on this :) |
Base, Base w/Sport Package, Touring, Grand Touring?
Does it have satellite navigation? The "Base" designator was renamed "Sport" in 2006 and the "Sport Package" was renamed "Performance Package". This will give you an idea about what upgrades were included in each trim level: https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/..._rx8_specs.pdf |
Hi NotAPreppie,
Ok, it's most likely the Base/Sport. I will have to dig out the manual and see if I can tell. I'm 90% sure it's Base though It does not have satellite navigation (not sure they even offered it in 2004?). Here is a link to the VIN Decoder for more information - https://www.rx8club.com/vindecoder.p...inDecoderFarea Thanks! |
Yep, it's definitely a Base trim.

Ask whatever you feel you can get for it,
if you're not in a hurry to sell. An RX8 enthusiast may really want it given the condition and low miles and pay what you want, or near to it. 5 years ago I paid $14K for my 2004 GT with 18,500 miles. I thought it was worth it. |

Yah, if you want that much, you're going to have to list it far and wide and hope that the correct enthusiast see's it.
The problem is that rollers with blown engines but good interior/exterior go for $1k-$2k. While these are a far cry from your car, they probably have the effect of depressing the prices for all '8s regardless of conditions. Best of luck. If I had that much money to burn, I wouldn't mind starting over with an '8 in immaculate condition. First thing I'd probably do would be unfasten every single bolt and nut in the suspension, frame and exhaust to add a dab of antiseize. |
Yes, $16,500 is on the top end. I think more like $14-15K is realistic.
Thanks for the input and help guys. |
