Navigation LCD 'Sun burn"

Hey all. I decided to post here after doing a lot of searching around about why my Navigation was inop. 90% of the searches in Google only had links to buying new/aftermarket systems. I didn't find many, but those that I did mention this forum.

Anyway, my issue is this. I bought my 2006 RX8 back in May. It didn't have any issues that I knew I couldn't fix myself. It wasn't until the end of May that I decide to spend a weekend to see what exactly works and doesn't work. When I got to the Navigation system I first checked all the connections on the Nav/DvD player in the rear console to make sure there were no burn marks/broken or missing pins. It checked out ok.

At this point, I moved on to the actual Navi unit in the dash. When I push the 'open' button, the unit will either do nothing, click, or open slightly. I either have to open it by hand or repeatedly push the button. Which says to me that the small motor for it is worn out. The 'tilt' button doesn't do anything. When I have the display up, all I have is a black screen. Nothing shows up and I get no sound. I pulled the unit out and check the connections are all in good shape. I even checked for power to the system which it is receiving it.

Anyway long story short and after much digging, I came across a random link (not to here) that said that the Navigation system can be 'burned/overheated' by the sun. Has anyone else had this issue? I have the unit completely removed and Im about to scrap it as I took it apart to check the ribbon cable and everything else. I priced a new unit from a dealer and it will range from $800 to $1200 :puke:. If anyone has any information on this 'sunburn' issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

While Im at it, my other issue that I have is that my radio with randomly auto mute itself. If I use the mute/unmute button on the steering wheel I have to press it multiple times or it will change the mode of the radio to 'TV" (Navi still wont work). Again, any help is welcome.
