My RX8 - prebroken

Hey there,
I bought my first rotary car, a MY2006 RX8 with a broken engine! I’ve always loved coupes, sunroofs and black cars. This ticks all those boxes. I’ve done several car & bike projects over the years (I’m on the wrong side of 50). I bought it in its natural state, that being it is on a hoist with the engine already out, so I haven’t even driven it yet! LoL!

Welcome to forum. Nice project. I see it has a real wing on the back, not that girly stock one.Haha
Is that an RX2 in the background? I had one back in the day. Same color too.

Welcome. My oldometer adds its second year past 50 next month. I am relatively new to ownership but I've spent two years figuring out how to fit a unicorn ultra low mile 2009 into my life with a little detour to pick up a 1996 Miata along the way.

Looks really nice! Planning a rebuild or replacing/swapping? What are your plans?

Hey Cayman, just planning on a reliable rebuild.
Already got new rotor housings, a sohn adaptor & LS coils conversion.
Had to find irons as well, should be running again before Christmas (hopefully)!
Also got an entire black leather interior to replace the grey one!
The yellow car is a Capella rolling chassis, not mine though.

Sounds good! Make sure your seal tolerances are correct and that the tension bolts are properly torqued. Couple recent threads about rebuild errors. I wish you good luck. Would like to follow your progress.

I'm not doing the rebuild, looks way too fussy!

I'm the opposite. I've been watching rotary builds on YouTube for quite awhile. I'd love to do one but don't want it to be my nearly new condition 2009. I'm pondering finding a project 8 to rebuild but there are so many other temptations out there like a $900 1997 Miata that needs a rescue or the $1,000 A4 Cabrio that I could rescue for my wife and make her very happy indeed.

Finally found a good set of used plates / irons. And the rotary aviation seal kit has arrived, so engine assembly is close.

My mistake, I got a front iron, when I needed a rear one. Got one from the local rotor gods. 21/10/2020.

Now reassembly can begin on Friday.

Rotary Aviation seal kit looks the goods at nearly $1200 aussie $$$.

Looks like an awesome project and I'm glad to see that you're rebuilding the engine and plan to enjoy the car. All too often people part the car or V8 swap it when the engine fails. Can't wait to see pictures of the car with the engine in and out in the light!

Nice work on getting it up and running!!! What do you mean when you say that the hand over is next week? Did you decide to sell the car?
