Launch

Hey guys I need a little help I drive a Shiftable automatic 2007 Mazda RX8 grand touring edition I'm trying to launch my car to burnout and heat the tires usually what I've tried is put in neutral and get the rpm to 5k and take the traction completely off I hold the button for 10 seconds but when I put it into drive the rpm drop and my car takes off slow I know most automatic cars that would work is there a safety feature I need to take off or what am I doing wrong?

Yes, the feature at stake here is incredibly low torque, sticky tires, and a rear suspension designed for lateral grip.

No, I'm not joking or being sarcastic. It's like trying to do a burnout in a 1980 Civic with really wide sticky tires on. It just isn't going to work.

Even on a manual, it's difficult with a clutch that grabs correctly and locks the engine to the driveshaft in gear. In a viscous clutch automatic... the torque transfer is just not going to be sudden enough to produce a spinning rear tire

Ok well when even if I can't burnout why do my RPM drop when I go into drive?

Because you're putting a sudden load on it. I can't even burn out with my manual RX8 - the traction control is part of the issue. You're not going to be setting record times with your car anyway, so why worry about it?
