I need help !!!!!😡🤬☹️

So not too long ago I posted about my 2005 rx8 and everything that I changed under the hood because myself along with a shop and dealership were all getting different compression numbers and I was told that was why my car is getting little to no power where it won’t go about 4000 rpm with it to the floor. Also that I need to replace the engine in a year.... I have read almost everything in here I have changed everything but the engine and the transmission, and I changed one solenoid and curious if I should just change them all. She quit on me twice while driving home today and she refuses to drive correctly if it’s sunny and I live in Texas. If any of you would be so kind to help me that’d be awesome because I’m going to go crazy being tense driving in a car that maybe wants to drive at night then other times cuts off in the middle of a busy intersection and I mean just the engine the battery and everything else stays on.

Please and and thank you!

Does it refuse to rev past 4K...or does it just feel really low on power?

Does it start back up when it is cold? Hot?

Is the check engine light on?

UnknownJinX 05-29-2019 12:19 PM

So any CEL codes?

And have you paid attention to the water temperature at all?

Can you explain what was changed and what happens when it 'quits'. Does it restart right away? Do you have to wait for it to cool down?
What were the compression numbers?
Manual or auto?

Please provide as much detail as you can

This was my first thread that lists what I changed on it and I also changed one solenoid. But upon getting my car back from Mazda shortly after this is when I changed that’s and was told my compression was 641 532 621 and so forth if I can find the paper or picture I’ll copy it. And when the engine shuts off she tries, But to no avail so I have to wait to try when she is cooled down a bit. Also when I’m driving she never goes about 4000 rpm max and she won’t keep speed she jerks to reach a speed then decreases in power even on cruise control; she’s an automatic I have a three year old I don’t want to try to drive and deal with him as well; she will decrease and then jerk to go and sounds like she’s screaming it’s honestly makes me cringe.

Oh and these were my latest codes it changes daily. Literally every time I drive.

UnknownJinX 05-29-2019 03:48 PM

These compression numbers(which are incomplete, you should have 8 of them) equate to a dead engine unless these numbers are not corrected and didn't account for high altitude of your location and/or cranking RPM.

From the codes and symptoms there seem to be at least these issues:
- failing ignition
- clogged catalytic converter
- dead O2 sensor
- vacuum leak/EVAP leak (that could just be your gas cap being loose)
- low compression

How long has it been unable to go above 4000 rpm or displayed other problems in general?

UnknownJinX 05-29-2019 04:45 PM

All the other codes make sense... But why is there P0047? Our cars don't have a turbocharger/supercharger...

sheenarc22 05-29-2019 05:00 PM

I took off the catalytic converter because it was clogged and put on a mid pipe. But I don’t have the access port to change that in the end, and it hasn’t been going above 4000 for like a month or two but nobody really knows why

UnknownJinX 05-29-2019 05:04 PM

Then your SSV solenoid might be broken, since that should open up at 3750 RPM.

Low engine compression won't make you unable to rev, it just means that a 1.5T Civic will blow past you like nothing.

I changed that as well I didn’t change the other two but I suppose I might as well go ahead and change them though huh? And you’re making me feel real great with the civic comment 🤦🏻*♀️

thebubbadog 05-29-2019 05:39 PM

Yea I would change the other ones as well. I would also try doing this https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...operly-265862/

You can argue that when one of them die, the other ones won't be far behind.

And I am just stating the truth, which can hurt sometimes.

Like actually, most family cars will be faster than us(as in high power 6-speed manual) from a standstill, especially turbocharged ones. I have driven a few of them, and even the 1.4T VW Jetta I drove when my car was getting its bumper fixed had more acceleration at lower speed. It's the highway passing and handling the RX-8 is good at.

schumithecat 05-30-2019 10:37 AM

my SSV soleonid was dead and the car still ran very well. when it's dead it just reduces top end power a bit but you can still redline it to 9k rpm. I changed all 3 so I wouldn't have to do the work again (it looked like the dead was original to car). it sounds like you have a major issue.

jcbrx8 05-30-2019 09:13 PM

You obviously have a number of things going on..., but the rev limiting to under 4000rpm sounds similar to the "limp mode" I experienced not long ago. There was no associated CEL. My issue turned out to be a bad, i.e. cracked, OMP pump sensor. I replaced that... and resolved the issue.

So, inspect your OMP sensor. If its good... search the forum for "limp mode" and you'll find there c/b a few other causes for our cars going into limp mode as well. Good luck.... and find another Mazda dealership.

See my build thread, "Curt's Gr8t 8 Turbo Build", beginning at post # 270.

Thanks guys you are all super helpful! And I’ll definitely check out the sensor I just needed some other routes to take instead of dropping a couple grand if it’s a simple fix I’m cool with it. I’ll probably rebuild the engine at some point I’m just not trying to do it today. A mom of a three year old doesn’t have that sort of time lol 🤷🏻*♀️😂
