I dont know whats wrong with my manual rx8

I have had my car for about a year now and recently it started giving me problems. What happens is that sometimes when I start the car it wont have any acceleration power. Then ill take it out and drive it around and it will go up to maybe 15mph. Then ill stop and start it again and sometime it will start working better than before, the only problem at that time is that when I push the gas pedal hard it will rev up, and slowly will gain speed. Finally, after using it like that for a while and I turn off the car for whatever reason and start it up again, the result will be like when I first start it. Sometime it will work, but most of the time it wont. I've been thinking if I should replace the clutch and transmission. Any thoughts?

What year is the car? How many miles? When was the last time plugs/ coils and wires were changed? Are you getting any engine lights on your dash?

The car is a 2004. It has 104,xxx miles and i changed the plugs and coils when i first got it nd yes i have the check engine light on the dash board, but i have gone to various stores to get it get the diagnosis numbers but nothing shows on the computer.

That's impossible. If the car has a check engine light, it should show up on the scanner!

What happens when you rev it in idle? Does it rev smoothly like a normal RX-8? check a YouTube video for reference.

Bring it to Mazda to have the code read, some codes are manufacturer specific.

When you say it revs up but barely gains speed, if the revs are increasing without a corresponding increase in speed, you at least have a finished clutch. You would smell it too.

A video would help a lot, your description is not clear.

Yes it smells after a while. And see i knew i needed a clutch i was just making sure to see if i really do need a clutch. Thank you!!

You still have a check engine light, that's not from the clutch. Get Mazda to at least look at it.

sounds like your clutch is toast. especially you said it smells.
