It's really hard to read exactly what you are talking about when you don't include periods between your sentances. You have some of them, but the rest is just a massive run-on sentance that requires some decyphering. If you don't care to put effort into asking for help, it often tells us that you aren't really interested in getting help. Just a tip for the future :)

Breaking up your post...

I assume those abbreviations are "assembly kits" and "expensive"? There are a few interpretations of each.

In many cars you can separate the fans from the shroud, but I don't know if that is possible with the RX-8. I expect that it is however. You The fans mount to the shroud though, so if you don't use the shroud you will have to fabricate another way of mounting them in order to hold them in place. Not only that, but the shroud is actually rather important in the fan's effectiveness. Removing it will decrease the fan's efficiency considerably, and you risk a much easier overheating event when the car is not moving.

There is a whole host of possible reasons. Have you read the new owner's thread yet? Coils, plus, wires, sensors, vacuum links, compression loss, etc...

Our MAFs rarely fail, so that replacement was probably unnecessary. Make sure you read the new owner's thread for the list of things you will need to address.

See above. Make sure it's a proper one, and not just bringing the car to a mechanic and telling them "tune up", since they will most likely miss at least half of the important stuff and do additional stuff that just wastes money.

What are your compression scores?

perrykris 06-13-2014 11:57 AM

Thanks for reply and sorry wasnt really paying attention. The Mazda dealership told me my compression on my first rotory was 6.7-6.8, and on my second was 10.7-11 and no rpm was given to me. They told me that it would have to be replaced but i have read a little on here and never seen anything higher then a 8, so not sure if they was trying to make me pay them more money or not.Currently I'm thinking of getting the BHR ignition, wire, and plugs kit for the tune up.

Yeah, those compression numbers don't make any sense and don't fit any known scale. A compression of 10.7 kg/cm2 is ... impossible? On a Renesis. 9s are insanely rare and hard to get. I think 10.1 (the official compression ratio of the engine) would be the absolute perfect maximum limit.

BAR is the only other scale that has similar numbers, but they are lower, not higher. PSI is ~70s-120s, and KPA is 400s to 800s.

I bet that they didn't actually do a compression test.

Thats what i was thinking and when i get home can even upload the picture of the paper that gave me, also tried to charge me 8k for the engine alone. After that i never went to a mazda dealership again

welcome.

may I recomend the $100 thread in my sig. Lots of good stuff for an older 8.

and yeah, those compression numbers sound broke. not your engine, just the numbers...
