Why wouldn't you just spend a little more money on a car with a 6 port / 6 speed to begin with? Much less risky than trying to source a good engine.

There are virtually no high flow cats on the market that will stand up to the EGTs produced by the Renesis, unless you don't mind sourcing a HJS from Germany and paying BHR to weld it into one of their pipes. And, there are virtually no power gains from going catless, as the main exhaust restriction is in the ports. We are talking between 0 and 5 WHP here.

To do any swap right, budget $10K. You may be able to get through an LS swap for as little as $5-6K if you are very methodical and careful with your purchases. All the others will be much more costly. This is not an exaggeration. It is reality.

When my son was your age, he wanted to do the same thing you are wanting to do. I talked him out of it and found him a nice little Ford Fiesta ST. Better power to weight ratio and much cheaper to own / maintain. How about a nice E36 or E46?

take it from a guy who bought an 07 gt from a **** load of farm work before turning 18. DONT get this car if you already are thinking of making it faster or anything of that sort. its not gonna get that much faster unless your willing to sacrifice a lot of money and time. not to mention the stress and regrets thatll come with thinking how much support similar nonrotary cars are. if that doesnt change your mind then just research the rew swap now and then buy a rx8 with a bad engine and just spend a whole summer or 3 working it out. if your doing a swap then make sure you have a beater car to drive around in the meantime.

Buy another car to make fast, or be happy with the power of a stock 8.

So after a year's worth of working and the start of a university semester, my head has brought down to the ground. Yeah, im probably just gonna keep the engine from whichever year I get the RX8, but I will need a rebuild soon after the purchase (as I've mentioned I dont trust used rotaries very much, im scared the internals are fucked... Compression tests before buying might be the solution...?)

As for power, I've given up to make power out of an 8, I'd rather just lighten it up to the max and drift it around... If I ever get the money for another rotary swap I'll be sure to check out the forum about it.

Also the guy talking about the Fiesta ST... Bro I trust amercian cars less than rotaries 😂😂😂 I wanted to buy a mazdaspeed 3 but I gave up because they were all rusted up where I come from.

Last summer, I was close to buying an NA miata as they're light, nice to drive and probably take winter times better than any RX8 😂😂😂 (not by much).

So much for dreams, they always die so quickly...

Newer Ford cars are okay as long as you stay away from their DCT. I have seen a few Fiesta ST at the Autocross event I went to last year and the owners all like it.

It's actually hilarious you don't trust Ford and yet want a Mazdaspeed3. That 2.3T inside Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 is the the predecessor of the 2.3T used in the Ecoboost Mustang and Focus RS nowadays.

As mentioned, you can either:

- buy a decent shell with a broken engine for $1k, buy a reman for $3k and replace some other stuff for $1k while you are there. Add $1.2k if you are having someone else pull the engine.

- buy an older 8 with good compression for $4~5k.

Your choice.
