Going back with my new RX 8,advice please :)
Hello everyone and thank you for contributing to this forum! I can see a lot of people helping each other and I believe this is a great place to talk about anything not just RX 8.As you may know I am a new RX 8 owner/fan and freshly new to the rotary.Watched over 200 videos already etc,just got my RX 8 2006 70k miles 2 days ago.
The thing is I want to travel back to my country and stay there for about a few weeks,but the coolant engine level keeps on coming in every now and then when I'm on the highway driving with around 70 miles. So,can you guys give me an advice if I should be worried about this or not and what should I check before my journey? I'm going from the UK to Bulgaria,1700miles driving. Thank you ! :) |
First: Welcome
Second: If you havent done so yet read the new owners thread about 10 times No Really Read This! Third: Is it eating any coolant or is it just the light coming on? If you are not loosing any coolant it's most likely that the level sensor in the reservoir tank is faulty. |
The erroneous “coolant light” is a known issue in early RX-8s. Assuming your coolant level is okay (just open the hood and visually check it), you’ll need a replacement coolant tank that has the revised sensor: MAZMART - Serving The Mazda Community Since 1980 New & Used Mazda Parts Mazda Performance & Racing parts Mazda Performance Upgrades. I'd suggest picking up new coils,spark plugs and other parts that will need replacement soon, while you're in the UK. Might be cheaper/easier than trying to source them from Bulgaria later.

Yes more than likely its a faulty coolant sensor as I had the same experience as it would come on for a while and then go of and repeat itself untill I replaced it with a new one.
