Hi folks,
I rolled the dice on a 2004 a couple of weeks ago as a project for my 5 year old son and I to work on together. The clean body and immaculate interior drew me to this particular RX-8. However, with 90k on the clock and a horrible knocking sound coming from the engine, I fully anticipated a rebuild. We looked forward to it actually. Still, it started "easily" hot or cold, ran beautifully and did not smoke. So, after much haggling (and assurances by the previous owner that the engine was fine), I bought it.

As some of you have probably guessed, the knocking noise turned out to be just the SSV. I knew nothing about this at the time of purchase but it was a very easy fix. Now we seem to be left with a very tidy and well maintained little series 1.

With no rebuild to do, we did all our basic preventative maintenance then went straight for the low hanging fruit; coilovers, decat, some wheels and various little things.

It's been a joy to work on and all around great little car so far.

We're thinking the next step is to get a spare 13B and go ahead and start that rebuild we were planning. My son is eager to see the insides of a Wankel.

I look forward to leveraging the knowledge and experience on this forum as our project progresses.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Mike
