Fuel tank removal.

Hi guys this is my first thread(please keep in mind my native language is not english so there might be grammar mistakes sorry)... so i dont know where to start*?Well here goes.I bought an rx8 04 from a friend a couple of months ago the only problem was that it took a few seconds of cranking to startup, anyways 3 days ago I noticed some gas leakage and had it checked out so it turned out that my fuel tank had a crack in :'( what made it worse I was qouted R25000 (+- 2550$ US) which is ALOT.So I have decided to remove the fuel tank myself and see how bad the damage is then n wil make a decision on what to do. Has anyone else had to remove their fuel tank? If so please could you write me a step by step guide, equipment I need and ofcourse safety tips(I know a bit about cars but im still a newby). Thanks in advance, hope you can understand what I wrote. :D

Not to hard, remove PPF, and driveshaft. Then everything else falls down.

It would be a good idea to burn or drain as much fuel out of the tank as possible before you attempt to drop it. Makes the job much easier. Of course I did not read the provided link, so that information is most likely in there.

Anybody know what tool is needed to disconnect the charcoal canister and vent line fittings on the top of the fuel tank? The manual doesn’t say anything, but they’re different than the fuel line etc quick disconnects. Looks like they need the insert style, but its hard for me to get a good look at them even though the tank is half out. Working off jackstands rather than a lift is mostly why I can’t get my head up in there well enough. TIA.

NM, figured it out. The small line disconnects have a pinch point on each side; you need to for e rotate them enough that you can get two fingers on the pinch points. It takes some good finger strength to get them pinched enough to come off. The big vent hose is an insert removal style, but I was ablt to get a small flat head screw driver in to wedge up one side, then had to squeeze it in on the other side enough that it finally slid off. Not the most professional method, but it did the trick late in the evening.

dang, didn’t realize this thread was in noobville
