fitting a tablet
 

Please can any one help I really would like to be able to play my mp3 through my Bose speakers that are in the car. After watching a lot of you tube vids one caught my eye which is to to fit a Tablet into the car (remove the head unit. ) would this be possible to do. i was thinking about using a kindle fire HD I do not have the sat nave unit cheers
BTW is a 56 plate RX8

Thanks for the reply I have had a look but still need help i have a kindle fire tablet that i would like to use, i have been to a few of my local car audio shops and they can't or will not help. what parts do i need to fit this into my car as the main head unit i would also like to have the engine readouts showing as well as the tablet playing the music through the bose system. I live in leicester in the midlands
My head unit is running version 10.01 if that helps ????

Thanks again loads of good info but I don't have a sat nav in my rx8 so can't install in the sat nav pop up, I want to remove the original head unit and replace with a kindle tablet

I'm sure there are some double din solutions you could look at instead of a kindle...

1) It's not impossible to source a satnav hood.

2) Did you even read past the first three results?

You will need Metra kit to install the tablet in the place of head unit.

For the wiring and all i believe same concept applies as any other tablets.

Sounds like you're coming at this half-cocked though I applaud you for not getting discouraged by the blunt (though absolutely appropriate) replies.

To me, it sounds like you want to rip out the factory head unit and replace it with a kindle fire. If you do that, you'll have a fair bit of wiring and modification to do, the complexity of which depends on whether or not you have the Bose system which I don't believe you mentioned in your initial post.

Now, you could and should be able to get all of the information you could possibly need from this great subforum that has multiple threads you can piece together to get the results you need.

My suggestion however would be to pickup and Auxmod (<-search) and connect the audio jack from your kindle fire to it. Then you can get a nav hood or any mounting system you'd like to lock the thing in place without gutting your dash. There is a slightly cheaper solution if you can handle a soldering iron and burn a CD with 80mins of silence but again, I'd recommend the former I think the engineer who reverse engineered the Mazda head unit deserves some dosh for his efforts.

I just settled on a bluetooth FM transmitter for the music streaming and hands free calling. It's pretty compact, planning to mount it flush in the blank panel right below the volume knob.

What is the device called?

The body is basically hollow except one board right behind the LCD, with the buttons on top, aux in jack on the side and USB/micro SD on the bottom. Should just fit in that blank panel. Probably gonna measure up the panel and 3d print a new one with mounts that I can clip the board and faceplate directly into.

You can't mount the tablet in place of the Bose stereo and get sound from the Bose stereo. You're literally removing the Bose stereo. How can you get sound out of it?

Your best best is to find a used navigation hood, take the screen out and replace it with your tablet. That would be the easiest thing to do. The car will look perfectly stock too. Then you can use an AUX jack to get audio from the tablet to the Bose stereo. Even better, get a GROM kit.

I've been thinking to laser cut the original dash and make shift a similar solution to the OEM nav hood

What about:
- Metra Kit
- Unscrew the original Bose Unit from the original dash housing and let it sit loosely inside the dash, using that original head unit to connect ipad or tablet to the speakers and maintain the original steering wheel controls
