"use the search function" is just a Dbag answer. Obviously I did use it, but I didn't come across any posts that said, "these bolt right up, these don't" unless you'd like to show me the post, or tell me the answer, you'e as useless as your replies.

The search function on a lot of car forums suck, TBCH. You are better off using Google with "site:rx8club.com" at the end.
Either way, I am not surprised that there isn't much info on this. S2 RX-8 aftermarket support is almost non-existent in general since there are 17k of them ever produced. No money for aftermarket companies to make here.
I personally don't know much since I am sticking with stock. Just providing some info here.

Make of it what you will, but if I google "2009 rx8 catback" the first 5 results include TurboXS, Racing Beat and Borla. They either have a bespoke series 2 product, or instructions on what a series 2 owner needs to do to fit a series 1 exhaust. And ebay junk, of course.
So I mean. Being new only gets you so far.

I mean, worst case scenario, you can always shoot the manufacturer an e-mail to confirm. Some of them may even provide PDF/YouTube videos for instructions on their websites. The more reputable brands will definitely have someone answer your questions.

yeah I guess I'll have to go that route. If only there was some kind of collection point of knowledge where anyone could find out anything just by asking a question

A lot of Facebook groups run that way. You join, you shoot a texttalk question, and no one answers it, or you get illiterate answers.
If you are not willing to put in some effort, why should others?
It may also have to do with the fact that cat back alone isn't really worth it for most people. You get a bit more noise and a little bit of HP with a couple of hundred dollars. Not a very good value.
