ECU Matching
Question? I have to replace my ECU and I've received conflicting opinions about purchasing one. What must match between my old and new ECU? Mine is N3H4 18 881G. Would I need to purchase the same exact coding for my 2004 rx8?

you have a couple options.
1. buy a same Model Year and drivetrain ECU (for 04 we have US 4AT, US 6MT, CA 4AT, and CA 6MT in the USA). Take your car and new ECU to a dealer and ask them to pair your new ECU to your car. This is necessary due to immobilizer "features". 2. buy a same Model Year and drivetrain ECU (same as above -- only works on 04 6MTs) and ship it to Racing Beat. For $300 they will put a flash on it that disable immobilizer checks. |
Silly question: why do you need a new ECU?

I have the scanner to reprogram the ecu. So all I have to do is purchase an ECU for my 2004 model?

You have a Mazda IDS? Damn, I'm jealous. Yeah dude... just match up the year and specification and you should be good to go.

@ Hamp, wish I knew you were there. I just went through this process. Learned a lot.
