Do I need to bleed the oil cooler after replacing?

Hi everyone,

I recently had to replace an oil cooler line on my RX-8 and the nearside oil cooler was drained. Will this need to be bled before starting the car?

If so, does the fact that I premix oil into my fuel mean that I could get away with not bleeding it?

Thanks in advance!

Not that I know of. The cooler should fill back up with oil when you run the car if you hooked the lines in correctly. You will have to add more oil after you run it the first time to replace the oil that was drained out. Premixing won't be the issue here.

Thanks - that's good to hear.

Will filling to the max line be ok to begin, or should I go a bit higher?

That's what I mean, run the car briefly for about 3 minutes, wait 5 minutes for oil to drain back into the crankcase, then add oil as needed. You should need to replace roughly 1.5 qt's but could be more. Just need to make sure oil is up to the fill line on the dipstick. You really don't want to risk overfilling it. Will cause a huge mess after a while.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
