Crushed CAT

So I was leaving my sisters house out her second driveway I never go out this driveway when I heardsscrapping figured it wasn't that bad after all I'm not stuck. Now when I start my car and rev it I hear things rattling around in the exhaust. I also have a check engine light on that's P0420.
Should I gut the CAT?
If I buy a high flow CAT can I pass smog? I am Las Vegas NV
How can I repair my CAT?

You can either replace the cat, gut the cat, or buy a midpipe.

Replacement with an OEM is either as cheap as you can find on the classifieds here or $1,300 for an OEM cat.

Gutting is free, will fail you on most emissions inspections

Buying a midpipe is better sound, but effectively the same as gutting the cat.

$1,300? Dam. Well I know its gone because my stock exhaust pipes smell like gas really bad. Anyway I can buy a universal CAT to fix this? I want to smog my car by next year

RIWWP 07-16-2013 09:00 PM

There are only 2 non-OEM options that haven't had reports of very early failure. One is also about $1,300, the other is about $100. The cheaper option is literally just the cat element and has to be welded into a pipe.

Don't forget your 8yr 80,000 mile federal warranty on the cat, if you are still within that. I don't see a year or mileage reference.

I have a 2005 with 84,000 miles. Dam it. Ok so where can I buy a replacement CAT to weld in for $100? Thanks

You gotta do just a little more searching bruh, "hint".... if you look at the links located on the post before yours, you'll get a lil 101 on cats very little options, good luck.

Hey ny 8 is making that tractor noise my engine just got replaced at 135000 and now the cars at 157000 the reman engine only has 22k kms on it. and the spark plugs were changed with the reman engine. 6MT GT sunlight silver. I started feeling powerloss above 7 rpm and then all of a sudden it stalled as I pulled up on my friends driveway. I tried starting it. It wouldn't start. I waited 5 mins and started it again. This time it took atleast 7-8 secs of cranking for it to start but it started making that tractor noise. It drove fine, till Iwas pulling into my street. The noise got louder with higer revs and started making a louder noise each time I let the revs come down. I checked the cels I got p0302 rear rotor misfire and p0171 system running too lean bank 1 and the p2076 (noticed cat was glowing so I gutted it out) so its not the MIAC sound. So p2076 is gonna stay I'm okay with that. I changed my coils yesterday and the noise went down a lot but its still making the tractor sound. So I checked the codes again and now the misfire and lean are both pending codes. I played around with my ssv and that's moving easily. The noise is there in idle and under load. Need help pls.! I've been searching there are a bunch with this problem but none with a solution.

RXperimentsz, you might have more luck posting in a Series 1 thread related to engine issues. There are tons of simliar problems there that you might be able to diagnose your issue just spending a large amount of time reading through some threads there.

I believe that plugs on our cars only last around 25k miles, so you should look into that, might be your issue. Issues starting usually can point to a bad battery or starter, since they were both a little weak on early models, but considering the misfire I doubt that's the case. Might be a good idea to check them anyway.

Other threads will be much more help than me though. Commenting on those threads instead of this one in the new members section might attract a more knowledgeable crowd. Welcome and GL on your hunting

BLUEPRIMUS...try to post your issues in the Las Vegas lounge, someone there could help you with the issues your having, good luck.
