Old member… back in another RX8

I joined this forum when I got my rx8 in 2008… i owned my winning blue 2004 for 2 years before selling it to buy a sedan. I missed my car so much. I still do.. it was beautiful. I’ve spent the last decade searching for a deal on one. Mostly window shopping and it all just being a pipe dream. I’m a dad now with kids and the house and all that. I was 27 when I stepped into my rx8 and now 42.

I have stalked “bring a trailer” for a couple years now watching these cars slip out of my price range or watching bids end without reaching the reserve.

last week I bid on a 2011 r3 with 57k miles and to my surprise after a little Bid war, I was the winner. I’m so excited to be back. I always felt like I missed out by not taking my rx8 to the Tail of the dragon (in the smokies) and this year I’ll be able to do it. I may only keep this for a while, I may fall in love and never let go. Anyways, I’m happy to be back here.

Pics of my 2004 and also my new 2011 I pick up Friday.

Welcome back!
I just got my '04 running again after 3 years.

Your R3 is nice, but I love that WB.

😁

Love this story! My RX8 journey is similar in many ways including a desire to make it to DGRR for the second time. The first time I drove from central California to DGRR and back. Now I live much closer and I look forward to getting my new to me R3 to the event. I hope to make it this year, but work is getting pretty busy so I am not sure.

Congrats on the R3. If you can deal with the seats it is a great driving experience.

I drove mine back from Wisconsin (to southern MD). It will be fine. Cant speak to your wife. Mine hates the car. No problems there, it is not for her.

Welcome back and nice R3. The OEM seats in an R3 are the best you can get for this car. My suggestion is to not look into changing them. It’s a complicated mess when you do.

Welcome back and enjoyed your story.

Both of you made me laugh. My wife shares this opinion of not liking my 8.

Picked it up.. I love it..

Question for you guys.. if the cardiac shows this had its 50k and 55k maintenance done and then also another inspection by Mazda before this sale , should I assume the ignition is safe or should I replace it. Would Mazda tell me if the ignition has been serviced if I went there and asked them? I want To take good care of this so I want to be sure it’s all good.

Cool.
Get a HEI tester and verify ignition health yourself.
Easy to do, save time and money.

Your copilot’s face probably mirrors your own. Great shot.
Plugs and wires are consumables (so are coils in this car) and I recommend replacing the coils with either the revision C Mazda coils or BHR coils. BHR are reputed to last the longest. You’ll have a fresh start and know ignition is looked after.
Insert mantra: Bad coils kill Cats (catalytic converters) and bad Cats kill engines.

Reading posts like this make me conclude that I should just keep my OG RX8 forever.

Congrats on the new car, I was following the BaT auction.
Honestly, may not be necessary, but upgrading to BHR coils and cables isn't a bad idea. You can test your ignition system et cetera, but BHR ignition "kit" is totally worth as an upgrade imho.
