Black Halo Racing vs Bennett Built Ls Ignition

I can sense that my ignition is going bad and will be testing it soon. Wanting to order an Ls ignition kit.

Narrowed it down to two choices BHR and Bennett Built. The Bennett Built kit is about $200 cheaper. The only disadvantage I see here is that the coils are not stacked in a straight line, which looks like it may be harder to install.

Is there something I am missing here? Is the BHR kit worth the extra $200?

BHR has sold thousands of kits and has a great rep and the other has sold very few and well, you get the picture. Search the "bad guy" section for both companies.

^ It's a newb question, so it belongs in the newb forums. The answer is BHR all the way.

Is the actual quality better though? I know BHR is superior in customer service and I would like to buy from them since I know they are a good company. I just need to know that I am getting a higher quality product for the extra $200 to justify my purchase.

Have you done any research? Found many "good guy" threads or other positive threads about Bennett? If you think $200.00 is a lot of money on this car then you are in for a world of hurt.

I think this is a good learning opportunity for you. Search this site for any mod you are thinking about making and/or any vendor you are thinking about patronizing. You can use the built-in search, but the better way is to do a site search using Google or Bing, with this syntax: site:rx8club.com bennett built ignition kit

With BHR, you get the original high quality kit (not a copy cat thing), good communication, accurate shipping estimates, installation support after the sale, and the best warranty for replacement parts, etc. if needed. With Bennett, you get, err... Read the search results.

Bennett Built is a former vendor.

Just pointing that out.

Hey thanks for the search link (I am not a very tech savvy person, and there is a reason I posted in the newb forum).

I think I am going with the Bennett Built kit. My main concern was a difference in quality, but from the search links y'all have provided me and from PMing member on the forum who have used this kit I cannot find a difference in quality of the actual product. I know that Bennett Built's customer services is subpar that of BHR, but for $200 I am willing to deal with the bs and I am in no immediate need of the new coils. I respect BHR's contributions to the Rx-8 community and their outstanding customer service, but there product is not competitively priced for me.

Bennett Built doesn't have any R&D costs to recover, since they didn't develop anything beyond a revised bracket, and they don't have much in the way of customer support nor warranty costs, so yeah, they can undercut the original.

To be fair, you see practices like this a lot in different industries.

Some replicas are actually pretty decent and competitively priced, although the support behind them won't be as solid.

Yeah so because there are a lot of rips offs we should just accept it and not support the companies who actually come up with original products.

You should support whoever you choose to and feel free to express why, but otherwise give anyone else a break for making their own choice by not tarring and feathering them with the social justice shame game.

If you really care about taking the best long-term care of your RX8, then you will spend $200 more for the right parts any day. BHR is the better choice. But yes you have the right to pick the lesser choice. Come back to us in a few years with your ignition kit experiences. Hopefully you will have no regrets by then.

Cheers

I’m neither Jesus nor Satan. Maybe you should be more concerned about how I can so easily set off your ignorance trigger.

Hypocrisy in this case would be me going around berating someone for wanting to spend 2x more than what they can build their own kit for. If you have a recent example of that then please show me. In this case I make no claim for or against either of the two kits being discussed here or any other kit including a home built one. I do know for a fact that people have used both of these kits successfully, other kits successfully, and home built kits successfully. I’m also aware of failures on all sides. And sorry if I don’t buy into the “original” hoax being perpetuated because other than being the first person to bring this particular style RX8 kit to market there is nothing unique going on here but basic application engineering and common sense. It was done on other vehicles by other people before and after the RX8.

Otherwise personal attacks and mob intimidation are meaningless to me.

I get it very well. I didn’t even have anything to really say about it other than feel free to express why you made your own choice but otherwise stop berating and harassing the guy.

The point with BHR is always that if you’re not for us then you’re against us. My own amusing call out on irony is how this is exactly opposite to what Jesus said in Luke 9:50.

I’m not against the product at all, but I do get that judging someone else is 20/20 vision compared to being blind when it comes to judging yourself equally.

Im sure they all just wanted the best for 8 users out there. but on the other side, it's also good if people try other stuff, i mean if that stuff breaks then it's inevitable he goes for BHR kit, thus both make business, OP is satisfied because he tried other brands, everyone is happy.
