Bad Oil Metering Pump?
 

I've had my 04 rx8 since March 2017, and I have been doing my best to take care of it. One thing that's been on my mind is the OMP. I see from browsing that a failing OMP with throw the car into limp mode with CEL P168(1-8).

My direct questions are;
1. Is there a rough estimate on how long a factory OMP lasts?
2. Is there a recommended preventative rebuild for the OMP?
3. Are there any signs that an OMP may be getting on its last legs?

I premix almost every time, but the few times I don't have premix, "what if" OMP issues run through my head.

likely the pump will outlast the car. They shouldn't have a lot of wear and they are well lubricated. Biggest issue would be dirty oil...so just change your oil as recommended and you should be giod

Most failures I've read about (never seen one live) were the stepper motor and attached electronics. And even then, often it was either because someone had taken it apart, the wires got damaged or connectors got wet. So leave it alone and it will be fine.

If you insist, get a Sohn adapter so you have a separate reservoir for injected oil and can monitor its consumption.

Ok, thanks for the info. I will most likely get the Rotary Aviation sohn adapter soon.
