Hey guys figured the new member section would be a good place to introduce myself, if not mods feel free to move where appropriate!

First off I just want to know what do you guys think should I turbo it? or supercharge it? I want to make it so fast! Can I use those power chip things I heard they make great power? what's the best intake and exhaust? How annoyed are you while reading this? Don't worry I'm messing with you I'm not really that guy.. chill! :yelrotflm

It is a project car that I will be slowly building and documenting on my youtube channel (Point of ReView Media), and I am absolutely thrilled to be back in a Mazda. I previously owned a 1997 Miata, and then up until about five years ago a 2006 Mazdaspeed6. The Miata I didn't do anything with as I was young and just driving too and from college, a little roadster was fun enough at 19. The Speed6 was a lot of fun, had a lot invested in it from power, drivetrain, suspension, reliability, and tuning however it was totaled due to flooding several years ago. Again, I can't tell you how happy I am to be back in a Mazda.

I was previously a member on mazda6club, and on and off mazdaspeedforums, and look forward to being active on here. I love the Mazda community and have more or less only come across awesome people within it in my years being a Mazda owner, so I'm excited to be back at it.

I understand I have my work cut out for me, I have a basic understanding of rotaries and the rx8, but already this forum has given me plenty of advice. I'll be spending a bunch of time reading and researching in the New Members section while start to figure out what kind of direction I want to take the car, and look forward to connecting with you guys.

Remember that a healthy Renny shouldn't flood. If it floods, you should check the ignition components, compression, battery, and starter.

Absolutely! Thank you. Seller said it has new battery and coils buuuut a seller is a seller, so I'm not going to put a ton of faith in what he tells me. He also said the radiator was new, not sure what his idea of new is but it seems to be very different than mine lol. I'll have a better idea of what I'm looking at by Thursday as that will be the first time I'll have any daylight to work on it.

Did he/she ever change the spark plugs?

Mazmart sells them for a good price.

Then go over these maintenance items:

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.


every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Did you get a rotary-specific compression test on your engine before purchase? If not, you need one first to know the true health of your engine. And do your diligence with any needed maintenance before you even think about any upgraded power options.

Also there are recalls for 2004 RX8s . Plug in your vin number here: https://www.mazdarecallinfo.com/Hile...0aAvyFEALw_wcB and see what has or has not been done on these recalls. Your car is entitled to all outstanding recall work, done free at any Mazda dealer.

UnkownJinX - There was no mention of how new the spark plugs were, I'm going to pull them tomorrow and see what kind of shape they are in, if not I have a local rx8 guy that said he has extras ready and waiting for me.

gwilliams6 - Thanks for the maintenance schedule! Saved it a couple days ago, but definitely well placed in this thread. Regardless of what previous owner says, I'm not going to believe its been done unless I do it myself or have receipts proving it was. I want to make sure the car is running 100% before I start building it up.
