4 port engine
So I bought one of these JDM 4 port things a while back to try and flip one of my RX-8 chassis and after digging some I realized it wont work in the manual car without some significant work..
some people waned to convert it to 6 port and what not.. which seems overkill for me.. Are they a direct swap into the Auto cars though? I know they were 4 port .. but I dont know the variances between the JDM and USDM cars? Is there any way to shove this in the manual car without converting it to 6 port? Are the ECU's that pissy about it? |
4 ports were in 04, 05 auto 8s in the us.
all us m/t are 6 port 06+ all 8s are 6 port in europe and i think some other countries there was a 4 port 5spd m/t i thint the ecu is different from us/japan and will be different from 4/6 port |
Easy answer...NO...and Yes they are that pissy ;)

It can be converted to manual. Shelldude did it and ran the car that way. It isn't easy, but it isn't an LS swap either.

LOL .. NO is easy enough to me... .. will this JDM Nonsense work in an USDM 04-05 Auto then or is it a nice ornament.. I honestly could care less about the engine ... I have no interest in "Making it work" if its significant work I'd just sell it and purchase the proper one.. or fix one of the few that are already here... My initial intention for these chassis was for 4g63 Swaps into the chassis... I bought this thinking I could make a quick flip of a car this spring and continue funding that other ordeal... shame on me for not digging deeper haha |
I is the same as a USDM 4 port...so it will work well in an 04-05 Automatic

Good info... Thanks for the clarificatino.. I will post the engine for sale .. or look for an auto chassis with low compressoin for sale and get something put together so I can make my money back off this flub flub..
Thanks again buddy.. Ricky |
FYI, don't bother with "JDM" labels. All engines of the same type are the same worldwide. There are no regional differences, only 3 designs total:
Series 1 4-port Series 1 6-port Series 2 6-port And for what engine goes with what car: 2004-2005 4 speed Automatic transmissions (North America): 4-port engine, Series1 design 2004-2008 4 speed Automatic transmissions (Europe): 4-port engine, Series1 design 2006-2008 6 speed Automatic transmissions: 6-port engine, Series1 design (combination was not sold in Europe) 2004-2008 6 speed Manual transmissions: 6-port engine, Series1 design 2004-2008 5 speed Manual transmissions: 4-port engine, Series1 design (combination was not sold in North America) 2009-2012 All transmissions: 6-port engine, Series2 design. |
Thanks for the clarification .. So this auto engine will help some poor soul make it another oil change or so before it loses compression too ;-) .
