2004 rx8 throwing codes
okay so I am brand new to this group so I hope I do this right.. My 04 rx8 has been throwing a code for a cylinder 1 misfire. I have changed plugs, coils, had to put in a new water pump and alternator all hoses and belts have been changed. It sounds great but it is still stalling on me when I stop at a stop sign or have to slow down a lot. It will eventually start again after about 10 minutes but it has a hard time. last night it also threw a P0661. I have not driven this car in over a year since I wasn't sure what was wrong with it and was afraid to blow my engine. so after all of the work listed before I took it out and now it is throwing that code. It also sounds like it is not getting enough fuel when I am trying to start it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Stalling at hot idle and not starting when hot are common symptoms for low compression. you need a rotary-specific compression test done. You should get 7 or 8 numbers: 3 pressures each for front and rear rotors as well as RPM (possibly two RPM numbers, one for each rotor).
P0661 is a solenoid that controls the secondary shutter valve (SSV) in the intake. It's highly unlikely that this is the cause of your problems but it's an easy one to fix. |
