100,000 miles on RX8's ... why such a big thing?

ok i said before that i used to have an 1990 RX7 GXL 5spd...and i made it last till it was around 250,000 miles doing nothing more than just standard maintenance and ocasional spirited driving...

in those days most people with the same cars that engine died before 100,000 miles were eithered neglected maintenance or just modified...or just running redline everytime drive it like a maniac...

so why is the RX8 hard to make it past 100,000 miles?

less reliable engine design that had to meet EPA and Euro requirements for emissions. Emissions requirements have added a ton of cost and complexity to modern vehicles.

Most failures don't seem to be related to the engine itself, engines are killed by dying ignition coils, which lead to clogged cats, which stress the already precarious side exhaust port situation.

Plus the Renesis makes what, 60 more hp and 2000 higher redline than that rx7, out of basically the same engine (except side exhaust port, which seems like an emissions decision).
