09 RX8 Warranty question
Considering purchasing an 09 RX8 and hoping the forum could help regarding a warranty mystery.
Short story... Why would a 09 with a purchase date of (11/1/2009) not have the 8 yr / 100000 SSP77 ? Long Story... Currently the car is at the shop having compression test and buyers inspection completed. In the mean time I am going through some due diligence tasks associated with services and warranties. One mystery that raises a flag I am hoping for some help on is regarding Engine Core Limited Warranty Extension Program SSP77. I called Mazda / spoke with a couple dealers with purchase date ( carfax ) of 11/01/2009. Providing the VIN I was hoping to see the warranty applies to November this year but no. So to the good folks on this forum the question is why would a 09 with a purchase as above not have the 8 yr / 100000 SSP77 ? I am 100% sure I must be missing something but am coming up short and hoped you could help. Thank you in advance. |

Branding, hmm, interesting, thanks for the insight. The engine had poor compression numbers so I took a pass on it. The hunt continues.

SP77 is a warranty extension that only applies to Series I. Series II all came with an engine core warranty up to 8 years, 100k miles to begin with, so no warranty extension was needed. It is written in the Owner's Manual/Warranty booklet. Most dealers are clueless though, and when they do their quick lookup they can't find the core warranty. MNAO is able to confirm it though.

Mazda is confident that the new 13B-MSP (R2) is more reliable than the previous generation. But as an act of good faith and kinda clear their bad rep for the 1st generation RX8 they just went ahead and place the extended warranty as standard. Do note though that Warranty is only applicable if you keep your engine stock. If its not stock it takes a little more work to get them to fix it and they can void the warranty. |
