NZ Unheard of problem :/ (already tried searching online)

Hey guys, this is my first time posting here, sorry if its in the wrong place. Had my RX-8 since the start of this year. 04 A/T. also in advance, I have spent hours trying to see if anyone has had this exact problem with no luck. Everything runs fine except I've noticed one problem that occurs maybe one every month or 2. Ill try and be as detailed as possible. So sometimes when im behind a slow driver for example and I want to overtake them ill press down harder on the accelerator which obviously causes the car to rev higher. Most of the time its fine, but every now and then , usually when I tend to do it multiple times within a single drive, my cars revs seem to drop, and usually when this happens if i take my foot off the accelerator the car will just shut off, when this happens the car kind of makes a clunking sound? and when this happens, even if i do accelerate the car seems to drag, but then if im going down a hill and i let the car roll it seems fine. Also form what ive found when it happens is that it seems to come right on its own after about 5 minutes of either just driving/idling with foot on accelerator or turning the car off and waiting for a bit. And then the car will be fine for a few weeks to a month and then do it again. If anyone can please shed some light I'd really appreciate it as I'm considering selling it if I can't resolve this issue as I'm worried about driving it.

Did you go through everything we have in the stickies? Ignition, battery, etc.

Also, since it's an AT I would also check the transmission fluid. Old fluid can make AT do all sorts of random stuff.

I sounds more like ignition or fuel delivery than transmission. Are the coils and plugs and wires < 48000 KM or about less than 3 years old and of good quality? Are the plug wires firmly attached at both ends and plugs torqued to spec? Does this occur on days with rain or wet streets (electric issue)?

o Rev limit reached
• high end power loss (jerky and stumbling)
o Ignition failure
o fuel pressure loss
o e-shaft sensor fouled
• high end power loss (smooth)
o Catalytic converter clog
o air filter clog
• low end power loss (smooth)
o Engine compression loss
• low end power loss (stumbles)
o Ignition failure
o front O2 sensor failure
• revs slowly but smoothly
o O2 sensor failure (too lean)
o catalytic converter clog
o air filter clog
• sudden power drop at a specific rpm
o Intake valving actuation problem
