04 rx8 engine problem??

I need help,u guys/girls think i need a new engine???

MrHH 06-29-2013 11:08 AM

I had similar symptoms, but for me it was a blown motor. Do a compression test, to me it looks like theres also a misfire but thats just me.

SeacretIslander 06-29-2013 11:17 AM

im dealing with the same problem still not sure what to do.

Well,
At first it sounded like the SSV rattling when the camera was on the engine bay.

But when I heard the exhaust I'm thinking MrHH hit the nail on the head.

Compression test, sounds like another one bites the dust

Don't despair.
We could be wrong.
It's hard to diagnose via the Internet.

Have solace in that a compression test is never a waste of money. That is assuming they do it correctly.

You need 3 readings per rotor, so that is a total of 6 readings.
Those readings need to be normalized to 250 rpm.

SeacretIslander 06-30-2013 02:29 AM

Alright thanks for that last part so now Ill know if they even did it right.

Goku SuperSaiyan 07-02-2013 09:51 AM

update! got a call from dealership, said my rx8 has very low compression n I need a new engine:(

LiveWire 07-02-2013 10:21 AM

What are you plans now then? Reman engine? It would be a good idea to look at the long term goals for the car. Did u have that 8 year/100,000 mile warranty? Im sure if you posted your location a few of the more experienced members might be able to refer you to some re-builders.

Goku SuperSaiyan 07-02-2013 01:41 PM

warranty is up:( I am located in Toronto! I might rebuild, hopefully its cheaper then buying a new engine...

Yes, its cheaper than a new one...

LiveWire 07-03-2013 09:11 AM

It sounds like you are just losing compression, so it is very possible that many of the few engine parts in there could be reusable.

Goku SuperSaiyan 07-28-2014 02:54 PM

rebuild the engine :) running fine....only problem is I have to replace the front 02 sensor:banghead:

Khurram 07-28-2014 03:02 PM

Hey Goku congrats. Did you do a compression test after the rebuild.

Just wanted to ask, where'd you got yours rebuilt from in Toronto and how much did it cost? Thanks

hoosier1104 07-28-2014 04:27 PM

I am going to ask the question because no has asked it. How does your cat look?

Goku SuperSaiyan 07-29-2014 07:50 PM

rebuild cost about $5600 n compression test was excellent, dealership located in newmarket did the work. replace the cat too!
