04 mazda rx8 cutting out when low revs!! help!!
Hey people im new to the rx8 owned one for the past month or so i have an 04 plate and it has 46000 miles on it! i noticed it had the well known hot start problem it started ok (ish) when cold, i had a look online and thought i would change the starter motor which i successfully did today now the car starts fine when hot or cold but when i drive and then come to slow down at a round about or junction the car will stall... im thinking about buying a new battery as the one in it looks old but i dont know if that will fix the issue, if anyone knows what it could be your help would be greatly appreciated!! thanksssss :)

You patched the compression problem with a new starter, but you didn't actually replace the worn metal inside the engine, so you still have low compression, and when it gets hot, it still stalls out from an inability to maintain compression at low speed.
Go get a compression test. |
replace coils , leads and plugs ......... assuming compression is reasonable .

New and Potential Owners: So I need a Compression Test, Right?
Details all about the test, and who can give one. Another thought just occurred to me. You disconnected the battery (presumably) to replace the starter. It could be a fuel trim problem. Start the car and let it idle itself warm, and then an additional 5 minutes of idling. See if the stalling problem disappears. |
