BigBadChris 11-03-2015 09:55 PM

My turbo has a turbine cover aspect ratio of .63. The kit was also offered with a .82. The theory goes that smaller means better spool, larger means more top end power

Williard 11-03-2015 10:09 PM

Iirc .82

Time to drive home and get ready for a double tomorrow :(

Nite all

Travis

Chris i want to see yours in person, but I need to do a little more on mine. It looks like crap and I'd hate to be embarrassed by a 4 per auto.

Does ari have a rotary compression tester?

Williard 11-03-2015 10:28 PM

I do :)

I also want to do a side by side in person compare.

K seriously, nite

Travis

logalinipoo 11-03-2015 10:40 PM

Well come visit you can see both of ours in one trip. I've got a spare room.

Mais go to bed

Williard 11-03-2015 10:45 PM

Not even home yet bud.

Will be in about 20 mins.

I just may do a road trip to TX.
Haven't been there since I left Ft bliss.

Yea, Ari has a genuine Mazda rotary compression tester. You should absolutely come visit the shop. He is a wealth of knowledge, it's worth the trip if only to ask him questions. Plus, if you buy an oil change, you get a free kitten! Let me know if you're coming to Dallas, I'll buy you lunch.

Williard 12-04-2015 09:38 PM

Welp,

Basically, this is where i am.

I still need new coolant hoses and an Alternator. I need a battery, a new laptop and a tune.

Most of the car is back together already aside from a few things. I have parts coming that will hopefully help me finish off the turbo oil drain because ATM it's kicking my ass.

The undertray needs to go back on and the UIM. Everything else should be correct and done.

I was going to post up a WTB thread but i think i'll wait until after Christmas. I dunno, mabye i will. If anyone has any up for sale shoot me a PM with a price. If the price is right i'll get it before xmas.

Anyway thats all for now.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Travis.

Sorry to threadjack, but thanks for the words of wisdom, Charles. After many sleepless nights and long drives, it is staying a four port auto. No sense in trying to reinvent the rotor.

Williard 12-18-2015 03:58 PM

Chris, No biggie.

So, a little update i guess.

I finally got a notebook (HP Mini) To use for tuning. It has been completely wiped clean, defragged the whole shebang. I have already loaded all of the software needed for everything to include the AFR gauge and it still is running like a champ. Thanks to Mike (RIWWP) for the quick, much needed assistance.

I Still have no battery and im debating using my old coolant overflow bottle... I dunno, we will see i guess..
Still need an alternator and a tune as well..

The parts came in that will hopefully help me finish my turbo oil drain. If i still can't get it to work im going to mark a new spot that will be easier to access and build a line to fit, drop the pan and get a new bung welded on. I can cap the other no biggie.

The UIM is back on, all the IC piping is on and it seems as if the bumper fits. I know 9k has a low profile filter for his, i want to look into getting one after the car is up and running.

Im missing 1 clamp for the IC piping actually. The one that clamps to the TB. I know i have it but i'll be damned if i know where i put it.

I just purchased a new set of Autobahn88 hoses from a member here. Im curious what everyone uses for clamps on silicone hoses. Do you use the old stock clamps? T-bolt clamps? Gates lined clamps?

With the mildest winter in PA i've ever experienced in full effect i may actually get to drive my car in january... We shall see.

I talked to my wife a little while ago about doing a vacation this summer. We would drive the 8 from PA to TX to visit some of our old friends and my old battle buddy's(Killeen,Waco, El paso).. Make a stop in Arizona to see Rays palace and hopefully meet up with some local 8 owners while down south.

Welp, back to work i guess.. Really bored though..

Travis

Williard 12-21-2015 08:15 PM

Alrighty another quick one.

So, the Autobahn88 hoses arrived today. They seem pretty decent. Im going to order clamps for them now once i figure out the sizes and amount i need.

Im going to take my alternator to Autozone here within the week. It seems to have developed a squeek and "catch" is the best way i can describe it at the moment. So im going to replace it..
Not his up coming weekend but Next weekend i should have all the clamps i need and be able to finish assembling the car. Aside from a quick glance i didn't really put any effort into the turbo oil drain. Im going to look at it on Friday and decide if i can make it work or if the pan needs to come off and have a new bung welded on.

Thats really it for now. Kinda feel like shit. I really dont want to be at work but it is what it is i guess.

Only two hours to go.

Travis

Williard 12-28-2015 12:54 PM

Welp,
Not really a whole lot of changes really. Hopefully today I'll be able to finish off the coolant hose install. I've been looking at my overflow bottle. The plan WAS to reuse it until I realized the cap doesn't seal correctly anymore. So I'll be posting up a WTB thread for one.

Still waiting for the rest of the VAC hose and a few other parts to arrive.

Eventually I'm going to have to stop to pick up my alternator as well, got another call today to remind me it's still there.

I ordered a new bung for the pan as well. As it sits I can't figure out a way to make it work. So instead of wasting more time and money I'm just going to fit a new hose and bung so I know it'll fit.

In all honesty I should have waited before I had it welded in the first place. I got ahead of myself and a bit...rammy I guess us the word. Thanks to my own impatience, I must redo.

That's it for now I guess.

we do it nice cause we do it twice

Williard 12-28-2015 01:09 PM

200, yea that's the way it's seeming.

Most of its correct though. I'm mainly working under the rules of (make it work THEN make it pretty. :)

Travis

Brettus 12-28-2015 02:31 PM

What's your ETA ?

Williard 12-28-2015 03:25 PM

Well, these are my time restrictions as o see them atm.

I work 60+ hours a week and I'm house hunting.
I need a coolant overflow bottle
I need to pick up my alternator and at the same time I'll buy my battery.
I'm waiting for a few things that will be here this week. I'll mock up a basic turbo oil drain with them and drop the pan. I'll drop it off at the welders and that should be a 3 day turn around.

Once everything is together and I'm sure I'm ready I have to talk to Kane about a tune.

So.. I'm thinking less than a month. Hopefully.

Travis

Williard 01-17-2016 06:11 PM

Welp, pans being fixed.

Here's my final to do list.

Strut tower bar
Oil pan w/ turbo oil drain line
Undercarriage braces
PS fender (I can't pull the last bolt to swap em, PS is too close to the wall)
PS headlight
Bumper cover
Still didn't buy a battery
Fill with fluids
Tune.

I need to get a 10mm nut to lock down the boost solenoid too but no big deal.

I think that's it.

Williard 01-29-2016 11:24 PM

Make it work, then pretty 9k.

I'm looking for a house, I work 60+ hours a week and my wife is prego.

I needed it to RUN so I could drive it to my new place.
Trust me I'm far from happy dude. It will require some more work but it will be better and beautiful.
Btw the fenders are now the same color and it's been tidied a bit.. but still nowhere near done.
But yea literally I can't remember how to post a vid from my phone.
Atm I'm really too tired to give a damn.. I'll get one up. Won't be tonight but I'll put one up.

Glad to see it up and running Travis, congrats!

Williard 02-02-2016 03:33 PM

TY TY Everyone.

Im fixing a few small issue's i had after the first few runs. Nothing Major really aside from a turbo oil drain leak.

I already have a new line but had no time to install it yet.

Travis

Williard 02-02-2016 07:23 PM

Okay, i got a second so i figured i would elaborate a bit.

My Turbo oil drain line was just dumping oil. (about a quart every 20 mins). Now a lot will say, OOOh It's those AN Fittings. Well, your KINDA right. Technically it was an error on my part from rushing. NO OTHER FITTINGS LEAK. None, not one, not a drop.

I've already had a new JIC fitting made simply so i dont have to mess with it again. (draining oil every time gets expensive)

I had wired my gauges to a constant power rather than a switched 12V and for some reason my head unit and dash display refused to turn on.
I re wired the gauges so they work properly now. The head unit i literally disconnected everything, cleaned it all up, reassembled and it worked like a charm. I think i just didn't have the front plugs seated completely.

I had a very small leak on the Manifold/turbo mating surface. I got another maybe half turn total out of the bolts so hopefully that'll be gone now.

I haven't been able to do any more test runs for various reasons.
Oil leak
ICE
I work a lot...

So hopefully i'll get everything back together and do a few more runs by Friday.

Thats it for now. Back to work.

Williard 02-05-2016 01:36 AM

So, figured I would post this up to see what reactions I get.

I want everyone's thoughts on suspension.
I want something slightly lower than stock but not too low. I also want a bit better ride. Hopefully without losing performance. Also it will NEVER see a track

Go:)

Budget?

Koni and springs is a nice combo

Williard 02-05-2016 01:54 AM

Preferably below a grand. Like I said, it'll never see a track.

Travis

Williard 02-05-2016 02:06 AM

I'm not really a fan of Koni yellows and I was thinking MS springs but if the drop is truly 1/2 or more its too much.

Travis

Williard 02-05-2016 11:30 AM

Really? Dan is the only one with an opinion?

Travis

9krpmrx8 02-05-2016 11:40 AM

The Bilstein B14 coil over kit would be the best bet in your price range. The KYB shocks and Tein S techs were a nice combo on the street. The best coilovers for under $800.00 are the Tein BASIS (not basics), we have two guys (weekend cars, no track time) with that setup and they are actually happy with it.

I've had Mazdaspeed suspension for maybe 100,000 miles and can't fault it for comfort or handling . Even on track it holds it's own . The drop is 3/4" which about perfect for street use.

I also drilled the sway bars to add some stiffness . Does not eliminate body roll but actually did feel like a nice improvement.

Williard 02-05-2016 04:36 PM

I like kyb shocks.

The S techs are the lower of the two springs are they not? Would I be more suited for H techs?

I have seen the tien sets but didn't think It was needed to go that far.
And always remember. I live in PA not TX anymore lol. It's not all flat here. I'll look into the b14's, I haven't seen them.

So if the MS drop rate is 3/4 it's a no go... damn...

Travis

9krpmrx8 02-05-2016 05:22 PM

No drop springs are low enough to worry about. I know plenty of low guys in PA, don't use that excuse. And the Techs actually sat lower on my buddies car when we compared.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-whe...visual-195556/

BigBadChris 02-05-2016 07:08 PM

+1 for the Mazdaspeed. Corners sharper, doesn't beat you up when you hit speed bumps. It was super stiff the first month, but it broke in well after that. And surprisingly affordable

Williard 02-05-2016 08:07 PM

9k,
I'm not talking about Allentown or Harrisburg (city folk) those roads are pretty flat. I live in the Coal region on and surrounded by mountains. (With terrible roads)
Ask the guys who did the rt 125 cruise. And that's not even close to the worst of it.
Anyway, so S techs are not a huge drop. Hmm..

S techs or mabye MS with KYB's.

Travis

logalinipoo 02-05-2016 11:24 PM

I've got the higher quality teins. I don't recall the name. But I'm pretty happy with them. The drop is up to you. I had them at stock height when I first put them on.
