va "car laws'

va "car laws' this is going to sound dumb but i was wondering if someone could help with basic laws on car ownership in the magnificent state of virginia.
for example.........

michigan is a non- fault state
michigan no emisions testing ( take the cats of right away)
michigan tinting cant be more than 4 inches down in the front windows and no more than 40 percent on the rest
michigan radar detectors are legal /lasers illegal
just as examples what are the rules on cars and keeping them on the
road/ modifying.

Can't help you, but go google "Virginia Automobile Laws" or something.
Should be able to find out quite a lot.

i'll try to answer these as best as i can

- i'm not sure what non-fault means, is it related to what happens during an accident?
- if your car is registered in northern VA, there IS emissions testing every 2 years
- not sure about front windshield tint limit, but maximum tint for front windows is 50% and the rest 35%
- radar detectors (of any kind) is illegal in VA, even if it's not being used, ie if they decide to search your car and finds it, they can confiscate it and cite you for it.

and some things you might not know about VDOT/DMV

- there is a state safety inspection every year
- there is a CAR TAX that gets assessed to your car every year
- and lastly, if you're in northern VA, enjoy the cops that patrols basically every major highway in the region.

I know the radar thing, we have to be careful when passing through because our cars (my friend and I) have built in jamming equipment.

Va is a contributory state. If an insurer feels you contributed as little as 1 percent they can deny your claim. Don't count on police reports to sort things out either. Even though a cop may assign fault at the time of loss if an insurer still feels you or the other person contributed to the loss it will lead to a denial. PPl always think just because a cop assigned fault to the other person they did nothing wrong. Heck, I have dealt with claims where both parties were charged....Who's at fault then? Enough rambling....hope this helps.
