Smithtown Mazda - Excellent Service

I needed to take my car to a dealer to get everything checked out. One of the moderators on the Rx7club forum (Roan / Speed_NYC) mentioned a few good things about new service manager at Smithtown Mazda so I decided to take it there.

The new Service manager, Lou, is a rotary guy. He owns an Rx7 and knows the history of these cars pretty well. I also spoke to the mechanic that works on the rx8s, his name is Kyri and has been there for a while and knows his stuff too, really cool guy. I spoke to them about a few TSBs and they were well aware of them all. Another thing too, the dealership is large and has a lot of parking. From my experience today I would definitely recommend them for any warranty work on your RX8.

I mentioned the club and the meets etc to him. The service manager has an Rx7 and might make the next meet.

No problem, speak to him first when you get there before you talk to anyone else. I see you are in Bayshore, I am in the next town over, in West Islip.

OK I'll do that.
Oh that's awesome! I'd really like to check out your rx7!

No problem, if you are going to the next meet, I plan on taking the Rx7 instead of the Rx8. Hopefully you can make it!

I purchased my car at Smithtown Mazda and had it warranty serviced there a few times also. I haven't been all that impressed by their "expertise" but I haven't particularly had any major problems with them either. I've mentioned small nagging problems (like an intermittant oil check light) that I know have TSB's and they just give me some lame brush off. I've had to tell them specifically about the TSB in order to get anything done. They never seem to acknowledge that RX owners might be a little more enthusiast about their car. I'm treated the same as a customer getting an oil change on an MPV.

I don't recall the Svc Mgr's name but "Lou" doesn't sound familiar. Hopefully he is new and will treat RX owners with a little more recognition.

Lou is the new service manager, he started there about 3 weeks ago. He is a rotary enthusiast, that's one of the reasons I took my car there. The mechanic that worked on my car was Kyri. He is very cool. If you are a rotary guy, they will also allow you to go where the work is being done to check on your car and see the progress. I encourage anyone to call and speak to Lou before going there and feel him out.

Roan (speed_nyc), a moderator on the rx7 forum recommended him to me, I was very pleased with everything. Call him before going there and see how things go over the phone.

Well after having the Engine Recall and a couple of other TSB warranty issues done, I remain unimpressed with the service at this dealership. I don't want to publicly disgrace them but I could run down the reasons if necessary. Lou the Service Manager does seem to be making some effort but the "white glove" service experience is absolutely deficient. I wouldn't bring my car there for anything other than warranty work and even then it pains me.
