RX-8s in NJ?

Just moved to NJ from OC, CA for a new job (Ferrari/Maserati NA, I'm very lucky...). I've been here three weeks and have yet to see my first RX-8.

Granted, this is hardly the optimal environment for sports cars given the roads and weather, but I have seen several 350Zs...

Guess that will make my RX-8 that much more unique when it arrives from OC in two weeks or so...

Real downside to NJ is that I'll have to mount a front license plate (yuck...).

Nah, just take off the front liscense plate mount and when you get pulled over tell the officer that there is no place for you to mount a front plate. Hey it's worked here in Maryland 2 times when I still owned my Monte Carlo.

Keep looking you'll find some. Although I think that many owners are afraid because of the weather around here.

where are you in NJ? I am in central and see very few around here but if you want to see al ot of cars go to any dealer in the area most have 40 or more. I am sure before long they will be a everywhere because Mazda is going for volume sales on this cars unlike say the Mini(though I am glad I did not have to pay list like you do for the Mini) so enjoy this short period of having a unique car for it will not last long.

yea just put the plate in the window when you are driving and take it off when u park. i agree that the front plate sucks especially with bodykits, but putting the plate in the window hasnt stopped me or any of my friends.

Welcome to NJ. I agree with you though, I haven't seen many either. I've had mine since December. There's a second one in my neighborhood that the guy just got a few weeks ago. The only other I've seen on the road was down in Flemington.

Where in NJ did you land from CA?

Actually, with the license plate.. certain states such as NJ , there is a law that the dealer mounts the front plate for you on the car.

So telling the officer, theres no way to mount it.. will prob get you more than a ticket.

They dont fall for that, the best thing I would say it.. your car was or is going to the shop, and you havent had a chance to mount it back on. to make it even more believable, get an old license plastic frame, pref a broke one and show him that... they'll let you go this time, next time.. i dont know..

have fun

btw, im in NJ in Edison area. I actually saw another Rx8 today, red with black tinted windows.. If that was you, give me a holla

I live in PA, but I bought my car in NJ. The dealership is loaded with tons and tons of these cars, and they are starting to sell faster now. NJ is def highly populated with this car, but they just don't drive them in winter as much. . Give it time, and some spring and summer, this rx8 will be a dime a dozen wherever you live.

Yeah right viking, I know a few people that have garaged their RX-8, and using a second car for winter weather. I am certain you'll see many more once spring approaches...

BTW welcome to NJ...( I know I am from PA, but you guys have the shore! )

Well Viggen, you should start seeing me driving through Oakland soon. I just ordered my RX8: GT 6 sp. Tianium silver on black interior. I am scheduled to receive my car in about a week. I live in Ringwood, the next town over. Someone with a black one lives here in Ringwood also.....I see him every morning on my way to work on Skyline Drive.

Driving down the NJTPK I saw a Tit Gray in the Car & Truck Lanes this morning at around 8:30. I would have waved but I was stuck in slow traffic.

My wife drives our 8 in the Cherry Hill area daily so if you see a blue 8 without a spoiler with a blond driving, chances are its ours.
