RX-8 Service in Northern Virginia
Not sure if for the win is still around. Angel motorsports is mixed review in the Hampton Roads region. IPR is the best place on the Northeast in New Jersey, now Speed one is no more. Then can't beat Kevin Landers in Tennessee for rebuilds. Addicted out of Maryville is another option. Used to be guy in Maryland trying to make a go of it, not sure of quality or if still in business.
Would you consider taking a deposit, allowing people to borrow for a few days, return it along with $20 (or a local 6 pack of microbrew, etc.) and get the deposit $ back?
Adding to this thread because it seems like this is an on-going search here. New RX-8 Owner, picking up my 2010 R3 in Aurora Blue in 2 days! I've talked to Browns Mazda in Chantilly, Northern Virginia just yesterday. They apparently have two technicians who specifically travelled and was trained in Japan to work specifically on rotaries. Apparently they are the Rotary Hub in DMV + rest of Virginia? I have a schedule for them next week to check out my purchase and I'll let you guys know about my experience! I think they're the only certified Mazda dealership with specifically trained rotary techs in like a 150 mile radius or so???? I can't verify that but I'll definitely update you guys when I meet with them with my RX-8.
I got this one off of a good friend I've known for years. He is a thorough JDM enthusiast and actually has the money to chase his passion. He currently owns a 700hp RX7 and daily'd this RX8 but needs to get rid of most of his cars as he is moving out of country.
I posted pics of the new car here!
UPDATE on the Mazda Dealership in Chantilly, VA. I took my car to them and they do comprehensive checks (like a prepurchase inspection), compression checks, and seem to generally know what they are talking about. Though, they aren't exactly super preventative on maintenance. They knew typical stuff like changing plugs and coils at around 30k miles, but usually their philosophy is if it isn't broken, prob don't need to fix it. I asked about if I should change the fuel pumps and engine thermometer, and they said either see the lights on the dash or you will know based on how your car drives.
So overall, I recommend having your own maintenance schedule that works for you, and asking them to do any of it or any repairs since they seem fairly knowledgeable. This is my daily and I really don't want to mess around with it, so I will be taking my car there quite often.

Rx8 service
Just checking in any technicians or rotary mechanics in the middle of virginia or towards the DC area? Close to Charlottesville or DC would really appreciate it if any one knows somebody. Looking to fix my manifold close to the oil metering nozzles.
Only ones I know of that are reputable around the area is Browns Mazda Dealership in Chantilly, Rotor Piston Motorsportz in Hagerstown MD, and Angel Motorsports in Hampton, VA. There's IR Performance in New Jersey but that's a bit of a hike. Browns Dealership does essentially OEM only though, so prob RPM or Angel are your bets. Rx7 forums pointed me to those same places too.
If anyone else knows any, please let me know! I'm looking for more too.

I live out in the Burke/Springfield area. Anyone have recommendations on where to take my ‘04 RX-8?
Safford Brown Fairfax just replaced wires, spark plugs, starter, and battery, despite the fact I told them I was confident I had a bad/clogged catalytic converter that was causing loss of power and a misfire CEL. Wanting to charge $2,100 for a new OEM cat was the final straw as I would be paying more than the car was worth when adding it all up.
I’m wanting to either replace the cat with a used OEM one from someone here on the forums, get a cheaper Davesport (heard they hold up to our high EGTs), or sell my car to someone who wants to take on a little work. Got ~100K miles ($55K on the engine since it was replaced at $45K).
Any advice?

It's a bolt on, so if you have stands and tools you could DIY, or a regular muffler shop could do it for probably less than $100.

My name is Ray. I have worked at both Rosenthal Mazda in Arlington and Nissan Mazda in Tyson's and know both Rob and Tory very well. I have 13+ years as a Mazda Master Technician and I may have very well worked on both of your cars in the past. Rob Arrington is a great guy and I always got along with him well. I will not speak badly of Tory in a public forum but I can not speak highly of her. People like her and the ever thirsty dealership drive for money while putting quality and honesty on the back burner changed my career path. I am a very successful Technician but left the dealership life back in September.
I opened my own shop in Fredericksburg Va. I'm a Mazda specialist and offer all the services offered at the dealers and can do so at well below their cost. I also offer Rx7 and Rx8 engine rebuilds and performance upgrades that dealerships do not offer. I can tell you with 100% confidence that your car will receive superior care if you bring your Mazda to me.
I'm a certified Mazda Master Technician and have been working on Rx8s since the first ones got delivered to the dealer back on 2003. I am also an ASE Master Technician with Advanced Engine Performance certification. I have more Rx experience and knowledge than the service advisors ever will. In fact, I willingly still consult privately with technicians at both dealers when they have difficult to diagnose problems.
Skip the service writers next time and give me a chance to impress you, and save your money.
I look forward to working with you, will appreciate your business, and will treat you and your car accordingly.

I would recommend Ray Whitney. He did a fine job reviewing my 2010 RX8 at a local truck dealer in Chantilly - including a rotor test - prior to purchase.
