Question on Virginia Front Plate Law

Does anyone know if it's legal to put the plate on the dashboard? I really hate the way the front plate looks, but I've already got one $80 ticket from the Draconian State of Virginia.
Thanks.

So you'd rather have it on the dash?

I doubt that's legal anyway

Dash is not legal, It is still considered not installed or Improper Equipment.. I have run for ever without my front tag. It is one of those retarded laws. Remove the brackets and if pulled say the car does not have a place to mount a front tag as it will interrupt the air-flow. Do the Rotary talk. Maybe you'll get lucky and smoke screen them into letting ya walk with a warning.

LOL... I know... this state does suck ass...
I do recall FL had a deal for a while there that, any car that had performance stickers on it and was speeding was considered to be racing or committing exhibitions of speed and the state could take possession of the car. Something like that.
We now have A retarded I hope short lived law that ONLY VA residents caught speeding could have fines levied as high as $3000.00. It is shit because if your are from FL and ripping through VA you would only get the base fine... not the Civil penalties that we'd get slapped with... Yeah VA the Communist Wealth.

You really don't want a piece of sheet metal sitting loose on your dash if you have an accident anyway.

Just tell them it's a Corvette. Those guys always get away with no front plate in VA all the time.

The license plate has to be affixed to the vehicle in such a way that it can not be readily removed. VA is strict with laws concerning vehicle modifications. Sucks sometimes.

BTW, Virginia code is easily searched if you're unsure about car regs. Go to http://leg1.state.va.us/000/src.htm

§ 46.2-716. How license plates fastened to vehicle; altering appearance of license plates.
A. Every license plate shall be securely fastened to the motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer to which it is assigned:
1. So as to prevent the plate from swinging,
2. In a position to be clearly visible, and
3. In a condition to be clearly legible.
B. No colored glass, colored plastic, bracket, holder, mounting, frame, or any other type of covering shall be placed, mounted, or installed on, around, or over any license plate if such glass, plastic, bracket, holder, mounting, frame, or other type of covering in any way alters or obscures (i) the alpha-numeric information, (ii) the color of the license plate, (iii) the name or abbreviated name of the state wherein the vehicle is registered, or (iv) any character or characters, decal, stamp, or other device indicating the month or year in which the vehicle's registration expires. No insignia, emblems, or trailer hitches or couplings shall be mounted in such a way as to hide or obscure any portion of the license plate or render any portion of the license plate illegible.
C. The Superintendent may make such regulations as he may deem advisable to enforce the proper mounting and securing of the license plate on the vehicle.

My friend took his off of his Miata last year and hasn't gotten pulled over for it, yet. He was even pulled over for a 10 over ticket and the officer didn't mention the plate not being there. I think it really just depends on where you are.

Yeah they tried slapping a 80~ dollar ticket on me back during summer. They were in every section of Rt. 33 outside and inside Harrisonburg. Some SUV cop pulled me over then a motorcycle cop pulled me over 10 mins later. Funny thing is I parked on a hill and his bike fell over. lawl :pokeowned

I got out of it pretty easy though. Judge asked me if i put it back on, I said yeah and he dismissed the case.
